• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Technical question

I had FSX Deluxe and ADE gave me bgl compiler errors and wanted me to update to Sp1a or higher. I followed the Wiki as close as I could but still got the error. Nothing I did seemed to update the SDK. Someone suggested that I find a copy of FSX Gold as it already was updated with Sp1a and Sp2. So I got a copy and installed it this afternoon after deleting my original FSX and SDK. After I got it installed, I loaded one of my airports into ADE, Still got the compiler error. I checked the FSX product version and it was the same as my original FSX. So I went ahead and installed Sp1a again. Now ADE gives me the desired No Issues found message. Made me think that Gold isn't already updated. So I tried to run Sp2. It told me I needed to update to Sp1a first. Now I have ADE telling me things are fine and Sp2 telling me I need to update. Should I just be happy that ADE is happy and leave well enough alone? Or should I try to figure out why Sp2 won't install?

I discovered that the Sp1a and Sp2 updates were on the Acceleration disk. I wasn't intending to install Acceleration but I went ahead and did it. Sp1a installed perfectly and so did Sp2. However I got an error about activation and had to edit the registry to get that fixed. ADE seems to be working perfectly which was my goal. Thanks!

Hello:

Indeed, there is a multi-step installation and update procedure called for with the SDK on FSX Gold and/or the original RTM FSX Deluxe / FSX Acceleration DVDs; please read and follow the instruction for that process here:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/read-first-fsx-sdk-installation-all-versions.8285/

If you prefer to use the convenient 1-piece automatic *.MSI installer for the FSX SDK (aka "ESP: SDK) from L-M, please instead download the P3Dv1.4x SDK directly from the secure L-M online archive link ...cited here:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/is-fsx-p3d-sdk-available-anywhere.443777/post-807502

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks guys. I downloaded the P3Dv1.4 SDK but I don't know if I'll install it. The thread said it and SP2 were about identical. Other than ADE and AIFP, what would I need it for? I'm not into Missions at this point and that's what it appears to be best for. I had a hard time getting SP1a and SP2 installed so I'm not in a hurry to hose those up.

If SP2 is working and you don't need any Acceleration or P3D variables you'll be fine.
