• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Text flashing on sign??

I know I have asked before but with different style signs (mostly ground polys) with "like" issues, but what makes this sign flash and basically un-readable?? I chose not to protrude the text on the sign and this is how it looks. Should I protrude it by an inch to correct the issue or is this something else?

My experience with Text and signage for FS is as follows:
Its better to make a texture with the text than to extrude and make the text blocks within sketchup. This will eliminate the flickering.

This was already answered in your other (identical) thread.

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=425785

Please please please make ONE thread for topics.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for pointing that out, I am very aware of the fact that I have posted the same topic in two different forums because the first one was posted in the wrong forum by mistake, if that is what you do in your free time, is to find multiple posts and add a comment to my second post of that very fact, I ask that you please refrain from further commenting on my post.

1. You are not helpful at any capacity
2. You have stated the obvious
3. You wasted your own time
4. Why did you even bother? Leave this thread to those that can help..
5. Get a life!

As far as I know you can also edit your posts and possibly even delete a thread that you have started. Hope I am not stating the obvious...

I used the "text" mode in Sketchup depicted in the image with the red circle.. Could it be a graphics card issue?? I don't have the most outstanding computer in the world but is does what I need it to do..

Since you clearly did not read ANYTHING in my other answer, i will refrain from attempting to further relieve you of your ignorance. Your rudeness I can do nothing about.

And yes, I do have much better things to do than discover you have posted the same question in yet another thread, without reading the answers offered to you in reply to your first post!

Now to the ignore panel. Congratulations, the second ever need to find that button, and the only user currently on my list.

You are indeed in esteemed company! Adios.

I must again thank you for your un-helpful input.. I at the same time do thank you for responding to the post because it keep it up at the top of the list and therefore others will see it and provide useful and helpful incite into what is most likely a very elementary problem to someone not well educated into this realm of computing design and converting. That being said, sayonara..

On a more productive note;
I made a box 5' by 3' and 2" deep.. Not doing anything else I used the test option to add the text to the face of the sign and made it look perfect!! I exported it as I should, loaded it with converterX did what I was supposed to do and it should up exaclty as it should have in FSX.. But what make this thing flash??

It is one simple sign, already made as you can see, posted all over the airport. The issue is, do I use it or not, because I can omit it and never think about it again or make it right and post in 20+ locations on the airfield..

And please do me a favor and kind of DUMB it down for me, the responses are great but I am getting lost in the computer jargon.

Also, I can't help but ask, would someone be willing to make this sign right for me? It's one sign, would take you all of 4 minutes if you know what your doing. I would love, love, love to know how to do all of this but for me to re-invent the wheel for one sign is just a bit to much of a reach for me..

This is what I sent to "Hcornea" via pm..

I have to thank you for two things, one for adding me to your ignore list and being the only one on it (I imagine this is quite an accomplishment and I am honored) also that you responded with nothing of any use except for the obvious as though the rest of us had missed it. What I was after was some useful incite but apparently that was not on your agenda for things to do.

I have an issue, I would like corrected, and would love any and all support I can get to rectify my problem.

You didn't help, you actually made an ass of yourself and provided nothing further. I could care less if you are the only man on Earth with the right answer, I can do without this stupid sign and my project will be downloaded (how many times I could care less because it is for ME and I am generous enough to share it as I have done in the past so many times) but with you ungratefulness and I assume your willingness to find another double post and call it out, maybe you should look around and see if any of your friends are called an asshole by most people that know that person. If you can't find one friend that everyone thinks is an asshole, well then it's most likely you because every group has one..

Just my thoughts, I figured I would share my opinion just as you shared yours......

OK, your talking about exploding and making a unique texture.. We have run way out of my league here... I am good with FSX signs and the like but I was actually shocked that the sign I made even showed up, then disappointed that it was flashy.. I would have thought that adding a black text to a yellow background with my Sketchup model and converted to 3D with model converter that it would look right but it doesn't.. Would anyone care to take a look at my file? I am not asking you to do the work for me, it's already done so I thought, just maybe help me out a bit here..

NO NOT YOU "HCORNEA"

I went and read through BOTH OF MY POSTS and still can't understand what were talking about "exploding" "unique".. I don't me to sound selfish because I am not, I just want to place this sign all over Joint Base Charleston as it is in reality and be done with it.. Why can't the "text" option be used to place "TEXT" over a background color and show like it should??

Sorry but it should read: unglue > explode > combine textures.
From what I understand is that you made an object with Sketchup and you have added some text using the 3D text option.
This text, if not big and extruded enough, will flicker.
In order to overcome this you have to make a unique texture from the polygon with the lettering on it and delete the lines that form the characters, the way I explained above.
If that is not what you wanted, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I agree but I wrote this so as to make sure other people that run into this problem may know (one of the possible) answers to it as well.
