• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

- Help needed for making NIGHT TEXTURE

Hi there.

I am a texture beginner and I am wondering if I can have some general guidance on adding a night light effect on a photographical texture. As you can see from my screenshots, I have a white-colored roller door texture and I would like to add a spotlight emitting light from the top. How can I add this light effect using GIMP, so that it looks like the 2nd image (these are not my work)? Should I just blend 2 layers together, 1 layer for texture and another layer for light effect?

I have searched over the Internet and I couldn't find any resources/tutorial on this. Thank you very much for your help!!

You're better off using a real 3D light source instead of a texture.
This way you can see the light effect not only on your object, but everywhere (e.g. ground) where the light reaches. ;)

Thanks for your reply!! I am using Blender and I did try using 3D light, but seems that for Spot light, the size (the range radius which the light emits) does not seem to be modifiable. I do change the size in blender, but MSFS does not recognize that. Is there any way to change the size of the spot light?

Never mind. I have already figured out how to adjust the size for spotlight. In the model gltf file, there is a parameter key called: cone_angle. Adjusting this parameter would adjust the size

The cone angle works fine for me in Blender, maybe depends what version you're using. It works fine on Blender 3.6 and the modified exporter addon from github.

Good to hear that your problem is solved. ;) Yeah, light parameters perfectly adjustable in Blender, I always use this option for my projects.
