In my latest FSX scenery I have used .fx files to create people that rotate to user, 31 of them to be precise.
One thing I found took a little bit of time and could be quicker was working out the bottom left/top right (uv1 & uv2) co-ords.
One way to make this quicker would be to have a window, that when opened, would show the texture used for the opened effect then have the ability to drag out a box around the part of the texture you want to use (like the Gmax uvw edit window), the uv1 and 2 entries would then automatically be written to uv1 and 2 from this selection.
See attached pic that I made up to demonstrate.
Edit: in pic below i got the uv1 and 2 arrows the wrong way around but you get the idea, LOL
