• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Texturing a GMax building video tutorial

Hi Folks

Bill -
ISP has suspended site account.

Is the video available elsewhere ?

I have already send Bill an email about this. No reply yet. If he can give me the video, I would host it on this site without problems.

Hi,

The video is available, but it seems it does not want to play. Maybe related to our recent server move, I am looking into it now.

Fixed, the webserver was not allowing the FLV files. So now the video is working again.

Whoever made this tutorial is a genious!! I owe them thanks!
I just painted my first gmax building ;)

Nice and easy tutorial. Bill mentioned using a screenshot of the UVW Editor's window to create a mesh layout.

While it's one way to accomplish the goal, it's far easier to use the (free) LithUnwrap program along with an .md3 export module (such as Quake) to generate 100% perfect mesh layouts.

LithUnwrap v1.3 is available here:

Newer version 1.3.1

Older version 1.3.0 (beta)

The Quake .MD3 Exporter for GMax is here:
NOTE: Grab the v1.0 (beta) version!

Thanks man. Very useful tool

You are most welcome. Using the .md3 and LithUnwrap are really easy.

1. Select object(s) in GMax you want to have on a single texture (after UVW Mapping of course!).

2. Export Selected as .md3 (Quake) format

3. In the export dialog, enter 0 (zero) in the first box, turn off "error report" if desired (last option),

4. Open LithUnwrap, File/Model/Open, choose the .md3 file.

5. File/UV Map/Save. Set the desired size of the bitmap (e.g., 256x256, etc.), select the desired options, name the bitmap as you desire.
