Texturing in FSDS

Hello Everyone,

I been having some problem with the textures in FSDS. For instance the texture appears on the object in the preview, but once I save it and put it into EZ the texture is not their. The texture that I was using was in

Addon scenery/sceneryname/texture (the area was active)

The picture below shows what I mean. However the part circled in red (the opposite side) was textured.

Could someone please tell me how to get this to work.

Thanks

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

What is the format and size of your texture?

Hello,

I changed the texture to DXT3 and the screenshot below was the result (stayed the same)

Could someone tell me how to do this step by step? What I did was start FSDS draw a cube (the shape in the picture) then went to textures, clicked add, chose the bitmap (it added it to the list) then I added it to the sides (the object was textured in the preview box) then I saved it as a model file. I then went to EZ-library manager added it with that to FS. The scenery file is in addonscenery/scenery and texture in the addon scenery texture folder.

Have I done some thing wrong?

Cheers

Aaron

It looks like there is some texture on it now (on the sides).

Usually it is best to use DXT1 textures (DXT3 is only needed if you use transparancy). And don't forget to add mipmaps to the texture as well. This can all be done with ImageTool. Using 256 colours is no longer needed and it tends to reduce the quality of the texture too much.

Not really being a FSDS user, I can't really help you with those steps. One thing I remember reading, how did you apply the texture to the other sides? I once read that if you just copy the texture name over, it does not work, you have to select the texture again.

About the mipmaps, it is a good practise to use them. They are good for the performance (allow you to save some texture memory when the object is far away). You will see that in the default scenery most textures have mipmaps as well. Using DXT with mipmaps is like the standard texture format for FS.

Right, you can't copy the texture name and paste it in the other sides. You have to manually select each one for FSDS to actually apply the texture.
