• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Jon,

This subject was touched on in another thread today. From my own experience I can say that just having ADE and FSX open at the same time is not a problem for me. I use both in full window mode and have just one or the other viewable on the screen at one time. I never see the delayed closing if I am not connected to FSX. When I am connected to FSX whether the edit box closes quickly or delays seems to have some relationship to the proximity of the aircraft symbol. IE the closer the item that you are editing to the aircraft symbol the more likely you are to have a delay in the edit box closing. Once the edit box doesn't close you cannot access any button on the main ADE screen in the background. You cannot click the disconnect button.(oh you can click on it but all you are going to get is that !%&* ringing bell) In general the edit box will close but the amount of time that it takes can be thirty seconds to several minutes. Yesterday I was working on a vehicle path. The aircraft symbol was directly over the path. I edited the path to change its' width. The graphic updated on the screen but the edit box did not close. After several minutes I clicked on the top of the edit box and moved it a small distance to see if I could encourage it to close. This resulted in my no longer being able to move the mouse pointer into the task bar area. After several more minutes, about 8 or 9 total since I had clicked ok on the edit box, I used task manager to close FSX. The edit box closed immediately and I went on without any other issues. I now know never to move the edit box while it is frozen. At this point I advise waiting it out or closing FSX as the two best solutions to get that edit box closed. I don't know what you can do with this but as you must know most of us are way to impatient to deal with this and keep our cool. Thanks for your help.

Ed

Thanks Ed. If I can replicate it with a profiler running (a tool that measures what is happening in real time) then perhaps I can see what it is) I will try the proximity to the aircraft symbol test. It is obviously something to do with the connection between ADE and FSX.....

I have the same problem as Ed. I will start to look at what is causing it for me and report it. I agree with Ed that it can take 30 secs or 3 minutes. In some cases I use ctrl+alt+del and interrupt the function (ADE edit property box) by just selecting cancel at the bottom of the window so I do not invoke the soft boot. After selecting cancel and the Window closes ADE is back working normal because the edit box that was open and hanging is now closed.

I find it can happen if the ADE window is overlaid on the FSX window. Normally I have them on separate screens so it doesn't happen.

Yep, I'm thinking the same thing.

Yesterday I had my ADE window side by side with FSX and connected to FSX and on top the TMFviewer window when ADE was hanging. I closed TMF and I think the hanging stopped but I was not testing for it. I'm trying to replicate it now.

Disregard my post. ADE still hangs with nothing under it but the desk top. Going up to the report post.

I am closing this thread - please report any such hangs in the correct thread and also please not 'Me Too' ;) I want to get to the bottom of this and for that I need to be able to replicate it (so far I can't) so I need as much information as possible including the version of ADE you are using and what you are doing and what dialog is open.

Thanks :)
