• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

The Suggestions Thread

Since there is none here I started. Hopefully everybody that has a feature request for the author places it here and make his work easier.

My initial suggestions for this wornderful application:

1. Save Background map settings in a separate project file. It was quite some work to generate the image and get its LAT/LON corners only to see it disappear next time you load the project :(

2. When one moves the runway the airport reference point seems to remain somewhere else. I had to reposition that. I had to manually calculate the center of the runway to reposition (manually again) the reference point. Can't this be automated?

3. Ability to import data from a KML file? Not very important given that there is a background image feature but that FSX_KML GE-tool integration is nice for adjusting the sceneries

4. Once you create a fence or apron polygon you can "edit" it as much as changing the location of the vertices (very nice) but there appears to be no way to insert or delete vertices

5. To be able to place other scenery objects such as airport baggage carts, palms (vegetation) and the like.

Hey Lord of wings,
THere is actually a way to insert new vertices once you've made an apron its kind of trippy though because you gotta start a new apron with 1 point and 1 point only and then click on the apron you want to add the vertice to,
wow i just read that myself and that makes no sense see how you go about understanding it

The background image information is saved into a separate file within your user directory. Some people don't want this, or have issues because of security settings, so there is an alternative option in the preferences dialog. You can specify that background images are saved as comments into the airport xml file. That way whenever you save the airport, the background image information will be saved in the same file, which can make things easier.

2. When one moves the runway the airport reference point seems to remain somewhere else. I had to reposition that. I had to manually calculate the center of the runway to reposition (manually again) the reference point. Can't this be automated?

The airport reference point does not relate to the runway, or any other part of the airport. It's just a reference for the center of the airport that FS uses to determine where each airport is. So moving a runway, or any other part of the airport, would not automatically move the airport reference point.

Interesting idea. It's not on our list at the moment however.

4. Once you create a fence or apron polygon you can "edit" it as much as changing the location of the vertices (very nice) but there appears to be no way to insert or delete vertices

You can add or remove apron vertices using the apron editing tool. To do so, once the tool is selected, shift click on the edge of the apron to add a new vertex, and control click on an existing vertex to delete it. This shift and control click functionality is also the same for boundary fences, blast fences and apron edge lights.

5. To be able to place other scenery objects such as airport baggage carts, palms (vegetation) and the like.

You can place any scenery object you like using the scenery object tool. After selecting this tool, just click wherever you'd like to place a scenery object. The drop down in the property dialog for specifying the scenery object to display there, lists several common ones. However, you can select the Custom option and then enter the GUID of any scenery object you like. MS includes hundreds, possibly thousands, of default objects. They are all listed in the SDK.

I hope that answers your questions.

For #4 a context menu would be nice because I could not find anywhere about this SHIFT/CTRL thing, good that I know it now.

The scenery object tool is difficult to find because it appears in the Navigation toolbar which is not related to that. You can perhaps borrow the long list of GUID/object names from another scenery tool :)

Just a few more things to add...

1. A ruler with heading and lat/long (I thought I read this request somewhere else, but it is such a high priority, in my book, it needed repeating).

2. Able to rotate the scenery. Since the Gov. and company do not design airports on cardinal headings  , this is a must have tool to be able to create/update our scenery.

Just one more observation... when drawing new taxiways/parking, the first designator follows the properties of the last taxi point. But... if you were is insert points on an existing taxiway, they would default to "Ashpalt, 50ft, blah, blah, blah..." instead of the properties of the original taxiway.
ex. Apron is concrete, Taxiway created are concrete on the apron. I go to draw taxiway/parking path off of the existing taxiway, they all default to "Asphalt, 50ft yada yada yada" instead of concrete. Anyway to keep the properties the same as the original path?

Oh... and just one more little thing. Any chance of being able to identify FSX scenery (buildings (control towers, concourses, fire stations...) and such) that are located in other FSX bgl files?

Other than that (am on my third airport, should have started small, but where is the fun in that), keep up the great work. :)

Good point. It should do that. :)
