• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

To delete an airport entry

Does anyone know how to delete an fsx airport entry?

It seems that one of the airports (seaplane base) doesn't exist anymore, and it's IATA code is conflicting with one of the airports that I'm trying to create.

Anyone know without it getting too messy?

No - the only way is messy and not to be recommended. You can remove all evidence of the airport on the ground by using an Airport Editing tool to remove all elements (runways, taxiways, parking and so on). However the entry will remain in the airport list. The only way we know is to hack the stock file and remove the airport. We absolutely do not recommend doing that.

An easier option that does not remove it but would make it clear that the airport is not in use would be to change the name to something like NOT IN USE. This can be done but requires a pre-loaded bgl file for the airport. The name has to be read before the stock file. If you use ADE (Airport Design Editor) - for example - then you can remove all the elements of the airport including Comms. Then using a trick with the Airport Altitude Change tool you can get the name changed. I am not sure if AFX allows the creation of pre-load bgl files for altitude change. If it does then I would imagine that it can also be used.

What you can't do without hacking the stock file is to remove the entry and ICAO.

The airport doesn't need to be deleted, basically it's just the ICAO codes that are conflicting. Oh, well.:(

The old airport is no longer in service, so the one that i was working on got it's ICAO code.

OK so you open the stock airport in an Airport Editor. Delete everything so nothing is physically left. Add your new airport facilities and compile the airport. If the new airport has a different name then we need to use a trick to get it changed. Otherwise the old airport is gone and the ICAO refers to your new airport. There is no need to get rid of the old ICAO record - just 'hijack' it.

I got the new name to work without a "trick", I just went into properties and changed everything from there. I doesn't matter if the airport (it's just a seaplane base) is still there or not. But, thanks, your idea worked, I can't believe I didn't think of that before. Thanks for the help Jon.

No worries. Good to know you got there :)

Hi Jon, when you mean "hacking" the stock file, does it has something to do with Hex Editing it? I think I read it somewhere, but not sure. I have the same problem mentioned above and would like to change the old SWKN to SBCN which is the new ICAO for this airport.

It´s all done, visual old apt removed, this is the last step, and I´m about to send it to you just to see if you enjoy it! Fist complete scenery.

Thanks all the way!

No really - we have tools such as SDE Test App that allows us to open a stock file, make changes and save it. Once you have done that though bear in mind that you no longer have a stock setup and you should never distribute modified stock files. Always save a copy first of course!
