• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Trick

For me it's a new trick. I was having problems setting up Gmax units setup so I drew a box in Gmax the size of a known runways width (200') of my airport. the first box was too small, and after changing my units setup and preference I got the box to sit on the runway with the correct dimentions. With a picture I can take measurements correctly and build my Hangers.

The old 98,Fs2000, Fs2004 Hangers are hard to use in FSX Gmax so now I am starting from scratch again with the correct sizes. Frank!

In both Max and GMax, the "Units" setup must always be "1 unit = 1 meter". Period.

What system you use for measurement within Max/GMax is your choice, as the result will always be "unit scaled" appropriately when exported.

If you have "Units" setup as required, it is guaranteed that if you draw a plane of 100' x 200' it will be those dimensions in the sim.

Nonetheless, the tip about creating a "reference object" is a good one. For that matter, there is a "measuring stick" available from AVSIM (perhaps elsewhere) that, when loaded as your "aircraft" will allow you to accurately measure any object displayed in the sim... :)

My problem was always in unit setup where it says
"Metric" or "US Standard".

Us Standard doesn't give me the correct measurements for my airport.

Now that is strange, as those choices affect only the measurements made within Max/GMax. They are absolutely ignored during an export.
