• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Turning off all shadows?

Is anyone aware of a means of turning off all cockpit shadows in MSFS20? My cockpit shadows keep flickering really badly and it's causing problems for my friends with a history of epilepsy. My solution right now is to retexture the cockpit interiors pitch black but I feel as though that takes some enjoyment out of the game. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Additional info on the flickering: the entire right side of the cockpit flickers when the sun is to the left, and the entire left side of the cockpit flickers when the sun is to the right. Flickering occurs when you either zoom in with the mouse wheel, or move forwards. Standing still, no flickering occurs

Is this a model you made? It almost sounds more like two meshes conflicting. Could you post a short video of what it's doing? Would be a little easier to diagnose the issue.
Edit: To see if it really is shadows, you could try turning off Contact Shadows in the MSFS settings and see if it makes a difference.

Hello,
I'm too shy to upload my project in its current state so I made a mock-up to demonstrate my problem. This fuselage shell was made the same way I made the other one (a cylinder with loop cuts). Turning off contact shadows did not seem to solve the issue either.

As you can see, zooming in / out along with moving forward in the aircraft causes the issue. I can't see how the mesh could be interfering because there is only one object in this video.

Is your Ambient Occlusion MSFS setting really low? Try bumping it up or turning it off.
It's bright on one side and dark on the other because of face normals being inverted. I'm not sure what your other model is like, but if it's similar to the mock-up where you are only using one shell for the inside and outside, it's because the normals are facing outward and the backfaces get lit by the sun. That can be fixed by flipping the normals or doing a solidify modifier to the outer shell to create a new inner shell, then making sure those normals all point inward. If you're using Blender, you can click the part, go into edit mode, select all with "A" and hit Shift-N.

Hello,

Sorry for the long reply, I've been sick and haven't had a chance to work on the project. I've tried everything you mentioned so far but no luck. I've attached a video below that better illustrates my issue. The front panel and sides are pulled directly from the Darkstar model so I don't see why there would be an issue with their mesh.

Update: I think it has to do with the fuselage? I spent a while just deleting random components and rebuilding. All normals seem to be good however. Can't tell what on the fuselage would cause this. Super weird however because fuselage had to be removed on both interior and exterior models to stop flickering
