• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Underwater terrain

I want to create the same effect of submerged reefs that are near the surface as seen from the air.

Is it possible to draw a polygon and mark it Reef or Rock and give it a negative altitude (say -3 feet)? and if not, what is the alternative?

I'd use a photo area, blended into the default water. FSX water doesn't carry transparency to show items, AFAIK. But a photo add on can carry transparency on top of the water and the ability to tailor the blendmask to your needs/desires would/should(?) work better.

Hi,

I would follow the suggestion above. You can not draw polygons under the water and still see them (I don't even think they would get drawn). So to get this effect using the blend mask would probably best. We have used it in our Dutch scenery as well to get sandbanks showing with nice transition to the water.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and comments. I will try to look into it. Last time I tried creating a photo something for FSX I ended up with unnatural blue halo's around the islands and couldn't get rid of them.

My 1st experiment was to draw an LC_Reef polygon which looks ok, at least as OK as the surreal FSX water but as I discovered it was a hard surface :-)

Next would be the photo once I find a suitable reef photo I can use & blend.
