• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Unhandled Exception Creating Object Report

Trying to prepare an object report, but crashes part way through.

Tried on 2 different computers (One running Win7 32bit, the other Vista 64)

The library is large, containing 216 objects, all of which are fairly complicated, but Modelconverter has been capable of loading and displaying each object manually.

My purpose in preparing the report was to assess which objects use a particular texture that I wish to alter (ie to preserve drawcalls)

I hope the report means something to you ..

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hi,

The error indicates that a texture file (ORBX_YBUD_Poles.dds) that it tries to open is in use. You don't have that file open in other application or so?

I will see if I can make ModelConverterX more robust in this case (skip the texture it can't open).

No .. none of the textures are open in another app. That particular texture is an unusual size though (256 x 2048)

Not sure if the unusual size is relevant.

I would not expect so. So sounds like ModelConverterX might be the one that opened it before.

Which library are you opening, maybe I can try to reproduce it here.

It's a rather large cusom library for a payware add-on

:)

The individual MDL files certainly open in MCX ... (I use it to quickly check mapping and textures)

I haven't actually tried the Object Report with it before.

UPDATE: :o

Tried again (after a reboot etc) and no problems this time.

Perhaps as you suggest something was making the file unavailable.

Now, if part of the report listed textures that had different material settings .... that woiuld be a lifesaver!

OK, good to hear it is working. Still I will update ModelConverterX to not crash but ignore such a texture in the future :).

Customizing the object report further is on the wishlist already, but I don't think showing different materials (thus drawcalls) is part of it already. I'll put it on the list, but I am not sure how each that would be to add.
