• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Update to Textures and Texture Control Files

Hi,

Thanks. Since the new ADE beta version wiped out my Texture and Line Definition files (and so I have to start over anyway), I took the opportunity to add these.

Don't worry, I didn't have much done yet, and I had uploaded a backup here as an attachment to get the info from. :)

Tom

It should not have removed or replaced them. I specifically tried to avoid that. However the on-line updater will not include these files

I have updated the texture control files to correct a few errors. As well, I have added a new texture and enhanced another.

The new texture is gp_TwyShoulder_100F. It includes four textures for drawing 3ft/1m wide taxiway shoulder lines - perpendicular at 50ft/15m and 100ft/30m spacing and 45 degree slanted lines at the same spacings.

I have also added an enhanced taxiway centerline to the gp_PatternedLines_40F texture. This also allowed definition of a yellow 20' interval dashed line. The real-world enhanced centerline appears to repeat at 24' intervals. However, the texture sheet is defined as covering 100ft. So, unchanged, the new centerline texture will appear with a 20' repeat. If you want a true representation of the real world, you'll either have to slightly stretch the texture or, alternately, resize the line to appear a little shorter in the GP Editor.

Finally, the package contains both mipped and non-mipped versions of the textures. Choose whichever you wish.

If you are a new user, or your texture folders and texture control files contain only base entries, then you can simply copy (the contents of) the Textures_Dpy_Base folder and the selected Textures_Base folder into your ADE Textures_Dpy and Textures folders respectively and overwrite the two texture control files. If, however, you have added any of your own textures, you'll can probably still just copy the texture folders but you'll have to manually edit/recreate your texture control files.

I am unable to upload the new texture package as an attachment. (The error message just says "upload failed". Presumably there's a size limit on uploads.) So, instead, you can download it from my website http://stuff4fs.com. Navigate to Applications / ADE_GP page and download the Base Textures.

EDIT: Please ignore my earlier advice in this post.

Do not delete the file named gp_PatternedLines_40F_Dpy.bmp. Instead, delete the file named gp_PatternedLines_40F.bmp and rename gp_PatternedLines_40F_Dpy.bmp to gp_PatternedLines_40F.bmp. Sorry about the confusion. That's what a few days away from the computer can do to you ;-).

Don

There is a file named gp_PatternedLines_40F_Dpy.bmp in the Textures_Dpy_Base folder of the latest Textures_Base.zip update. While leaving it does no damage - other than possibly creating confusion - you should delete it from that folder and, if it has found it's way into your Textures_Dpy folder, from there also.

Don.

In light of the difficulty some of you are experiencing in updating your base textures and to correct the erroneous file name in the previous update, I have posted a further Base Textures update at http://stuff4fs.com. Navigate to the User Applications / ADE_GP page and download using the Base Textures menu item.

This update contains very detailed installation instructions. Otherwise, other than the removal of the errant texture in Textures_Dpy_Base, this update is identical to its predecessor.

For those of you that have had difficulty with the previous update, I recommend downloading this new update and re-installing. (I considered writing an installer. But, since there are unlikely to be further major updates to the base textures, I opted for detailed instruction at this time.)

Also, I neglected to mention in the earlier update that the titles of the dashed line entries in Lines_Def.txt were changed to make them more descriptive. Those titles previously starting with "Dashed - Short" and "Dashed - Long" have been renamed to start with "Dashed-5F/1.5M" and "Dashed-10F/3M" respectively. This means, unfortunately, that if you have created GP Lines using the old name and you edit those lines, the old name will not be found and you'll have to re-assign to the new name. Hopefully, this will not create too much difficulty. Alternately, you can add the old name back in by copying the six entries now named as above and rename them starting with "Dashed - Short" or "Dashed - Long" as applicable.

Don,

Both Texture_Def_Base and Lines_Def_Base refer to taxiway_marks but there is no taxiway_marks.bmp in either Textures_Base_Mipped or Texture_Base_NonMipped. It is in only Textures_Dpy_Base.

Base_Textures.zip downloaded this morning.

Page 17 of the user manual explains how to use taxiway_marks.bmp.

I also explained (somewhere) that this was necessary due to MS' licence terms not permitting distribution of Flightsim textures. However, I can't find (any reference to) that explanation.

I guess I should have repeated it in the readme.
