• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

USGS DATA MAP HELP

I think the problem is you've got a quote between culebra_elevation and .bgl on the DestBaseFileName = line in the .inf.

Try just:
DestBaseFileName = "culebra_elevation"

I guess I was expecting wow when I installed the .bgl, but the results were disappointing. I must have done something wrong.
Here are three images, first is the scenery with the elevation bgl, notice the dropoffs on the sides of runway. Second is default fsx, third is photoreal without the elevation bgl.
In real life there is a very narrow valley towards the right, and hills on both sides making it a very challenging approach which I wanted to recreate. I was hoping a good mesh would do that. Maybe my mesh is full of mistakes.

looks like you have to exclude the flatten and create a new one which is more tight around the airport.
 
Hi Dave, love your work btw. I thought so by reading some posts, so I went to ADE and created a terrain polygon, selected "exclude specific - Airport backgrounds flatten" and created a cvx bgl, I then put that into my Culebra scenery folder, but it did not exclude the default flatten. Was that not the correct approach?
Is there a file I need to delete in fsx related to Culebra that contains the flatten in question?

I found something in SBuilderX: A polygon named Exclude_specific_Terrain_Type and then select AB_Flatten.
Maybe this one works.
 
I've always used "Exclude_All_Airport_Boundaries" in SBuilderX, the ADE equivalent would be "Exclude general > Airport Backgrounds". It looks like the vertical smeared edges are gone though so I wonder if there's a natural depression in the mesh there? You could open your mesh .bgl in TMFViewer and take a look.

Ok!! making progress here. For some reason I kept getting an error message trying SbuilderX related to the fsuipc, so could not try that approach. Then tried your path in ADE Jim, and it seems to have done the job. This screenshot is with the flatten exclusion applied, but without the mesh I created for Culebra, but now it closely resembles the true topography. I guess whats left is for me to create a flatten for the airport area. Thanks!!!:duck:
