• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Using FS as a flight data "playback" engine

Hi guys,

I have just discovered these forums, so please forgive an almost exact duplicate of a post I put on another forum. This one is far more appropriate though!

Is it possible to use FS(9 or X) as a flight data "playback" engine rather than something with a dynamic flight model?

I would like to program something which could "stream" data from a source (eg another simulator, live data from a UAV, data from a FDR or QAR etc.) using a custom module into FS and have the aircraft and gauges/displays respond to that data, rather than to a predetermined physical flight model....

Background follows this post for anyone interested enough to read it! :-)

Many thanks,

Martin Hughes

I am currently looking at ways of visualising the flight of a UAV when it is beyond visual range and only sending flight data back to the ground (not a live video feed).

I realise that I would have to "model" the world it is flying in exactly to the real world, but to be honest that would only really be an issue at low altitudes (ie take off and recovery), when the vehicle would be close enough for a video link to be operational.

FS would also be a good way to "rapid prototype" different cockpit displays and gauges before developing them as separate applications.

Hey FirmamentFX,

FSX and its SimConnect API should allow you to do what you want, you should hang out and post in the SimConnect forum here. I know you can freeze the current users aircraft via SimConnect and then move it around, not positive on if you can drive the variables needed for a functioning panel in that mode though (haven't tried it myself) although if you were also willing to write your own gauges, I'm fairly certain you could use SimConnect to pass custom data to them (I've been meaning to get around to using SimConnect so I know what it can actually do :-> ).

Let's close this thread then and continue in the SimConnect forum.
