• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Using Google Earth?

Are you allowed to use Google Earth for ground polys with Freeware projects or not?

I'm not sure of the license details... I hold a professional license for the software.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi,

I am not a lawyer, but as far as I understand the license you are not allowed to do so. It states that you can use the images on your personal website, as long as you keep the Google logo and license text on the image. But I don't think using it for a scenery fits in that category (as you want to get rid of the logo probably).

This topic has been discussed a lot before, but the answer seems to be no. Unless a lawyer turns up here and can explain us all the details :).

Ok thanks.

Yes I can't imagine turning to final and passing over a 300ft high "google" logo painted onto the ground ;)

Although I wouldn't put advertising on approach past the ad industry before long  Like the Burma Shave adverts on freeways in the States back in the day.

Definitively no.

Google is not the owner of these images. It only has licensed them to use them, but you may not use them for any other purpose than viewing yourself.
If you want to use them for photo scenery, contact the owners of the images that you find below, like GEOCONTENT in Germany. It may well be that for small freeware projects they just say OK, go ahead and add a proper reference.
