• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Using Google For Background & Xfer Values to FSP

Using Google exclusively for a background image source may be a problem for some that also use the Google API for other image purposes. If you exceed some unknown usage parameter Google will block all further access to its images via the API for an unknown time period. :( After somewhere between 24 and 48hrs the ban is lifted. It is based upon your IP address. If your ISP will issue a new IP then you can continue for some unknown time until you are once again banished from service. I would guess that acquiring single background images infrequently may not trip the magic trigger.

A question, is it possible to acquire the lat/lon values from the Google API so that the user does not have to do a copy paste?

Regards,
Dick

I am aware of this. People are free to use whatever source they like for background images of course.

I believe the limit is quite high though. Something like several thousand searches. Of course if you go over that level, then you can pay google for unlimited access. :) If this ever becomes a problem, then we'll have to look into how that would work.

Do you mean so that the lat/lon parameters would be loaded directly into FSX Planner? If so, I'm not sure. We've looked into it a bit, but not very much.

The best way to transfer the lat/lons is to use the combined text field. Copy that and then choose the combined lat/lon option in FSX Planner and then paste the copied values into the one text field. That removes 3 copy/pastes.

Yes it was my thought to transfer the extents directly from the API to FS Planner. However, the single parameter copy/paste is no big deal.
