• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 VTP not covering depending on texture

Can someone explain to me why a VTP poly with texture from Classes textures covers a lake but the same VTP poly with texture from Assembled textures does not?
Please....this is very confusing.

You need to include a zipped example of the SBuilder files ( export SBX file ) so someone could look at them. Just guessing, you need to set the VTP layer number higher.

Indeed I should have done that right away.

Here are my KGSO files.
I tried layer 20 and that didn't help.

I tested on poly #20:
  • Moving it over a wooded area show the expected texture which is some green grass.
  • With assembled texture there is a weird reaction to the underlying land class. If it's on top of fields/small town or city it will turn to brown (dirt like)
  • With class texture it will show the proper texture

Hi Patrick.

If you change the types to Classes, rather than Assembled, I think the problem goes away. There are equivalents in the Classes.

FS9 had some problems with AB polys ( Airport Backgrounds ). The Assembled types have a mind of their own. I remember Holger Sandmann did some experiments with these a few years ago. The Assembled types change appearance with elevation, slope,season... and have some blending abnormalties.

At any rate, the problem lies with FS9, not SBuilder. All the layers can be 9.

Sorry for the late response, I missed your post.
Thanks for the input. Yes that is what I had discovered on my own after losing some very long time experimenting and getting all kinds of weird terrain reaction with the polys.
