• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What about a wanted thread?

Does anybody think it would be a good idea to have a Wanted thread or even a separate Forum?

REASON: I have been searching for a FSX compatible Blackpool Tower and 'bits' to reside in my VFR photographic scenery. I am unable to extract the FS2004 version objects I had in a past life in order to move it/them to the correct positions. I have tried to create one using gmax, but it looks pathetic.
Therefore I am asking for help. Seems a pity to spend countless hours re-inventing a wheel when somebody may have already got things rolling:D

Thanks

Charlie

Hi,

Let me try...
You could make a projection of the Blackpool Tower.
Texture the four sides as a fence on both sides and then... fold the sides until you get your Tower.
You need of course have good pictures and make them ready for use, so that you can see through the elements that make the Tower.
Is that a good hint for you ? This way of designing gives you a very framerate friendly object.
This Tower is indeed rather compilcated than simple, but there is always a way... sure there are other ways to do it.

Greetz. José.

I'll give it a go

José,
Thanks for the tip. not 100% sure what you mean exactly but will try your suggestion.

Regards

Ian Broadbent used the method mentioned by Jose to create the Tower in his Fylde scenery (for FS2004). The Tower shape is fairly simple, it's the texture that makes it look like a complex model. The texture name was blackpool tower side_Transparent.bmp.

Arfa,
Thanks for your information. I have Ian's excellent scenery and will use the texture as suggested. I had hoped to 'extract' his models guids and re-use them in their geographically correct positions but have been unable to disassemble the bgls.

About to re-start work on the project now - boring Sunday otherwise:D

Thanks

Charlie

Back to the original question, if people think a "I am looking for" thread might be useful, I think we can create one in this forum. Just like we have the "I am working on" thread.
