• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What addon do I need (for DDS)

I am attempting to import a gltf model and I get the error message -

dds.jpg

What addon do I need to use and where would I get it from?

Thanks

There isn't an addon that I know for Blender to read DDS Files for MSFS. Blender can read standard DDS files. Besides, the error appears to be wanting an Importer. There isn't an Importer supported by Asobo or Mircosoft for gltf files.

Thanks Doug.

I have just found that MCX will import the gltf model AND the DDS images (why didn't I think of trying that first  )

When in doubt, one might wish to open NotePad on top of such a pop-up message box, and type in the text of the status / error message.

One may then copy that text and paste the message into Google, potentially to elicit a "plethora" of replies to one's query:

Of particular note are these threads at FSDev:

...and this GitHub reminder: MS-Asobo's implementation of glTF for MSFS is a proprietary extension to Kronos' standard glTF 2.0 format:

Also of incidental interest was the possibilities implicit in this GitHub repo: ;)

Hi Gary

THAT is exactly what I did before posting and got 'hits' at github, downloaded a zip file and installed it using the normal addon install (Blender) AND even though I got a 'success' (install) message coudl NOT find it listed as an addon to enable it and so wondered if it was part of another addon and then tried again (to import the gltf) only to get the same message.

Anyway as mentioned later I WAS able to import into MCX and then output the textures (as PNG) together with the model and THEN import that into Blender. A round about way I guess but I got the job done.
