• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Where are the beautiful water masks?

I saw a lot of previews with incredible shallows and reefs, like these ones:

even in the intro:

Then I go to this location or other places, like Key West or Hawaii, where bing maps has that imagery available and the water just looks plain blue:

Anyone knows if this is going to be solved with an update, or if it can be fixed with the terrain tools?

Cheers!

This should be solved with an update. The short answer is they are having to do these by hand and they will be added with updates to the sim. I've already seen several which were not in the Alpha/Beta but Key West is not one of them. You can try Grand Turk and Caicos in the Caribbean and also Grand Bahama I think? There is a thread on AVSIM maybe that has a bunch of posts about this including a video of places that you can go check out. I think there is also parts of that video showing what may be coming in a future update.

In the Q&A stream they actually talked about this. When they recorded the first game videos the bing photos where taken during low tide. Then these was updated and the new photos are taken during high tide. They also said that this will most likely be changing over the years to come as the bing data gets updated.

so msfs will make bing do more updates?
Bing has been continuously updated since it was launched, but it's quite obvious that they don't have the amount of resources to put into it as Google. One can only hope that MSFS will change that. Over the past 10 years the photo imagery over my house in Sweden has been updated several times on Google Maps, but on Bing Maps it's at least 10 years old. During the same period I have seen Google Street View cars driving around in my little city at two occasions. With that data the world in MSFS would have had photorealism practically everywhere!
