FS2004 Where is the .MDL file

Hi gang1
I use FSDS v3.51. When I complete a model I click the house icon and am prompted to name the new .bgl file. I do this and a model is created some where and the .bgl is in the addon scenery. I start FS9 and the object is where I place it. Works fine. My question is, What happened to or where is the .mdl file? All I see is a library object name and number in the .xml. and the .xml is a very small file. If I edit the .xml in notepad such as altitude. and recompile I have lost the 3d object. This seems to happen only with FSDS created objects. I have no problem with .xml files that I have downloaded. Where is this "Library" in FS9?

Thank you in advance for any information.

It shows up in the FSDS folder and is called _temp.mdl. It is renewed every time you compile.

Cheers, Paul

Hi,

I think it should also be possible to save as a MDL file from FSDS. But when you save as BGL the MDL is only used as an intermediate file.

You certainly can. When you are ready to compile click on the little house in the top task bar. It will open asking you what .bgl you want to save where.
Go to the bottom where it asks what type of file and click on .mdl. Tell it where to save and you are good to go.

To GBPS- Using FSDS I compile and choose mdl. Very easily I navigate to a folder I made in FSX\addon scenery called object files FSX. Inside I made a scenery folder called scenery MDLs. So it look like this:

FSX\addon scenery\object filesFSX\scenery mdls

DO NOT activate this folder in the game!

Now, you have all your mdls in one place. You now can use whatever program you use to make libraries with. I use Instant Scenery. Many others out ther work well. Bob
