• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Wiki

Hi Nick,

Good suggestion, but I think we should not try to imitate the very good FAQ on the AvSim Scenery Design forum. It would be a waste of time to write a similar document.

Also give it some time. I have not even finished transfering all of the tutorials from the forum :D. I am sure more people will start contributing later on.

For the record... I find the FAQ on avsim only "ok" :) But I see your point.

Ah, there is a new FAQ on AVSIM.... very good... :banghead:

No reason that we cannot have something simular here.

Hi!

Well, since I´ve been working a lot with LC lately, I thought I might jot down a few notes on this in the Wiki. But what is required? I do not use the SDK tools, but SBuilder instead, would it be ok to describe that process? It is already covered in the help of SBuilder, but can be explained "better".
And the new Avsim FAQ, is it the one in pinned to the top of the Scenery Design thread?

Yes, you can add whatever you feel would be helpful to others. Ping myself or Arno if you need help creating a new section.

Hi Hans,

As Nick already said, please do so. There is absolutely no rule about which tools to use. Any article that can help another scenery designer (so whatever tool he is using) is welcome.

Something that helped me, but then got buried likely in forum posts, was when we first worked out the xml syntax for scenery. Folks posted working snippets of code for stuff like windsocks, buildings, exclusions, fuel areas, etc.

I'm happy to admit I create my new xml from cut and paste from standards rather than new typing, xml is simply too intolerant of syntax errors and my typing is too unreliable.

Does anyone know of a pre-existing xml code sample content somewhere. If not, lets start one.

Just a little something that might want to be mentioned and im sure that most of us now this already but perhaps help the newbies from bangin there head alot with effects is.....

That when using Gmax and attach tools to attach an effect to an object....you will need a second object also in the scene or else you will get an error trying to convert to mdl and get an error.

I know i had this problem when i first fooled around with effects and perhaps might ease some frustration with a beginner.Hopefully i stated this that people can understand but if it can be written to be more reader friendly...please feel free

Ok, started writing a little - at work, which will not work once the details kick in - but, boy am I new to this system! Nick, Arno, please feel free to move the text as suitable! :)

EDIT: Ok, I removed my text, as I cannot right now figure out how to place the guide/tutorial as a separate page. I can search for a subject, but not create a new page, using the method mentioned in the index-page.

Hi Hans,

Can you maybe be a bit more specific about what you tried to do?

When you search for a page that not exist (you need to use the : symbol to give the categories) you should see a button to create this new page.

Hi!

Well, I started writing, but found that it was perhaps not so good to have the entire text directly in the Tutorials startpage, so I thought I´d add a new page under the section Modifying the Landclass. However, even if I am logged in, if I do a search for f.ex. lwmviewer (:lwmviewer or : lwmviewer), a name not found in the wiki, there is no button "Edit this page" in the displayed searchresult page. :banghead: As usual, I might be missing something! :)

Hi Hans,

You need to search for the full path, you are not allowed to create new articles in the root. So for example search for:

tutorials:mesh scenery:lwmviewer
tutorials:gmax:something

Then you should be able to create a new article.
