• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Windows 7 -- Observations? Issues?

Howdy All --- :D

Wondering if anyone has done much experimenting/testing of FS9 and FSX under Windows 7? (latest release candidates)?

My major concern are the compatibility issues, but also wondering if Win7 does anything to improve the multi-core CPU operation of the FS twins? I know much of that lies in the code of FSX and FS9, but you never know.

Any comments, feedback, observations??? Looking into building up my next BIG system and looking for inputs since the sims get a lot of stick time on my main machine :D

Thanks --- Bob

Even I've the chance to test Windows 7 I would never install a not-yet-released OS. Never.

Runs just fine here but I can't say which version of Win7 I am using ;)

Same here, my FSX runs fine on Windows 7. But I did not do big tests to compare the performance.

I use a triple boot with XP, Vista and 7.

My performance with FSX on 7 is 15-20% superior than on XP. My version is the 7100 release.

There are people who say that FSX closes on Win7 if you "right click" too much on the empty screen to see the "menu" (you know, the one that you select views, etc...)

What do you mean Bert - I must be very slow this morning!

hi Jon,
When i want to add a new scenery to the scenery-library, it doesn't in win7 in the usaual way. Please just try it and you will see what i mean.

When you see the name in the directory field, just click on the any white space in the frame above.

Hi Bert,

Yes, I have also encountered that problem. I have read some suggestions on how to fix it, but none of them seems to work in all cases for me. I still have to try the one suggested in the previous reply though :)

Hi George and all,
George your advise worked for me. Thx for that!
The funny thing is that i tested FSX with win7RC and no problems with the library there...how can:D

Have a nice weekend!

I have win7 64. FSX works great. Scenery areas load if I just click on the white space.

performance is better, but I upgraded my machine in the same rebuild, so its not a valid statement on windows 7.

Now the bummer, I have 3dsmax9, and its not completely compatible with win7 64. While I have it running fine in "xp mode", I haven't figured out how to setup the sdk so that the aces tools are supported. I suppose I'll try gmax for the moment.

If anyone has figured this out, please let me know.

Bob
