• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Won't Compile No Matter What I Try

Hello everyone!

It's been a lot of fun using FSXPlanner, and it's proved useful in many ways that the other editors have come lacking.

Anyway - I have been building an airport that has yet to be included in any MSFS Game... or in any flight sim at all for that matter. CYCX - Gagetown Can-Mil Heliport.

It all went well until it was time to compile, no matter what I do, it just refuses to do it. I have brought it down to this simple message:

-------
Can't copy BGL file into the destination folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK\Gagetown Can-Mil CYCX.BGL (The system cannot find the file specified)
-------

Every attempt I make, I hate seeing that "COMPILATION FAILED" message, its such a drag.

Anyhow, I have tried doing everything that comes to mind, and everything I could find posted here. Changing the destination, changing the filename, changing some settings, changing all sorts of things.

One thing I did try that made it successful in compiling (but it didn't really compile anything new) was to copy an existing BGL file and rename it the same as this one, Gagetown Can-Mil CYCX.BGL, then put it into the folder shown above in the error. It finally compiled properly, only telling me that an additional elevation file could not be written, so I did the same for that, copied an existing one and renamed it.

This did not work, I was hoping it would compile my XML file to a BGL and overwrite the one there, but in-fact, it did not change anything at all. It was still the same old BGL, but with a new name.

I hope that makes sense.... if anyone has any ideas as to why this occurs and how I can fix it, I eagerly await your input!! Thanks!

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit under administrator mode, if that helps.

Okay, sorry for the double post here, but I found a solution almost instantly after posting this.

Turns out I had to do one of two things, either:

A) Start FSXPlanner under extended administrator rights mode; or

B) Move BGLComp.exe to a secondary hard drive (one with less security), and change the destination folders to the same place.

Again, sorry for reposting, but hopefully this might help someone in my situation. I had tried this before, but I didn't think I would have to move BGLComp.exe as well as change the destination folders.

Yes, the security issues in Vista prevent programs from writing to the Program Files folder. I do think that is odd. A program should be able to modify its own folder within the Program Files folder in my opinion. But perhaps MS has its reasons for not allowing this.

In any case, I'm glad that you found the solution to your compile issue.
