• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

XPlane obj export broken in latest ModelConverter builds

Since mid november XPlane obj export seems to be broken. It produces unusually big obj files in pure text format. Both ac3d and WED cannot read those generated files, resulting in a crash.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. I think this was most likely introduced around Christmas when I released the big performance update. I have found a bug in how MCX wrote the POINT_COUNTS command to the OBJ file, I think that might have caused the crash. The different file sizes was due to a missing optimizations, I have also address that now. Can you let me know if the next development release works better?

Thank you very much for looking into it so fast!
I'll let you know if the new dev release will work better.

I tried the new build, and now it works again, thanks! I noticed that in some case there are glitches in the converted models, perhaps because of the optimization. For example, I tried to convert the terminal in this model https://flightsim.to/file/6452/vnjl-jumla-airport-nepal

ModelConverterX read it fine as it displays a perfect reproduction (although I have to edit the size), but the resulting XP objects (it's split into multiple objects because of textures) have some glitches in the shape.

Hi,

And if you read those X-Plane OBJ files back into MCX does it look OK then? Or are the glitches then also present.

If I read the files back in ModelConverter, they are fine. That's really strange. In particular, the model distortion is very evident in JumlaTower_08 (both in AC3D, in WED and in the simulator itself), but it is ok in ModelConverter.

I just found another bug in the converter: I converted a P3D model that should result in 32 XP obj because it uses 32 different textures, yet in the new build all the 32 models are the same exact model with the same texture, in previous builds the conversion is right.

Hi,

I can't reproduce this issue. I exported a few objects with multiple textures, but I do get different models exported for each material. They are not the same. Can you point me to an object to test this with?

I sent you a PM with an example object

Hi,

I have found the bug and fixed it. In the next development release it will work as before again.
