• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MCX - Specular Color reverts back to White

@arno
I have a specific MCX material template I created a while back for transparent vegetation models. When I made the template, I accidentally left the Specular Color as White. (255.255.255) Now if I apply this preset and attempt to change the Specular Color to Black, (0.0.0) it reverts back to White upon saving the MDL. I assume this is likely a bug with the preset being used..

That being said, It would also be nice if you could eventually add an option to edit (and maybe save/export?) material templates down the road.

Hi,

The templates are already saved, you'll find them in the templates folder in MCX. But they are serialized in binary form, so it's not really readable.

It's a long time ago I used the template editor, but I think you should be able to edit a template in there.

Also the template is only applied when you click the button. Colours would not change due to the template at a later moment. So you can safely edit the material afterwards.

Does it happen when exporting the MDL? XtoMDL sometimes changes settings that are not used/relevant.

Hi Arno.
Good to know about the template saving. I'll have to look deeper for a way to edit the template.

About the Specular Color change, yes it happens when you export the file to an MDL. It could possibly be that one of the settings I have selected tells XtoMDL to ignore Specular Color all together.. I hadn't thought of that. :scratchch I'll have to pay closer attention to the models in the sim to see if the Specular actually shows up.
