Hi guys !

im facing a problem again with the scenery !
im trying to add custom trees and palms to the scenery
using 3DS MAX,

the problem that i face is the alpha channel is not going to work with ModelConverterX's "Convert and place object wizard"

why ?

here's the steps i do in the pictures :

---
-i created the object in 3DS MAX
-i exported the tree file
-i imported it in ModelConverterX
-i extracted it
-i put the alpha in the .DDS file
and still not working !!

i tried to do it with "Ground polygon wizard"
but when there's a cloud behind the tree it goes over it like this :

Now what ?

Hello there

Firstly the reason why u get your error in Model converter X is because your texture is not to the power of two which is required by Flight sim Ie 512x512 1024x1024 2048x2048 so try re-sizing your texture to one of these sizes the reason also why your tree is black like in this pic
Untitled-1.jpg

is because you didn't click the set default transparent setting in mcx
Untitled-3.jpg

after you have clicked apply your trees will look like this
Untitled-4.jpg

then all you need to do is scroll down in the model converter x settings and set Assume vertical Normal :=True Double sided :=True No base material Specular :=True and No Shadow:=True

Untitled-5.jpg

and then one last thing you need to play around with your alpha test level to get the object rendering correct i usually set mine in the range on 170-190 but its something you have to play around with alot

then u can use model converter x Object placement wizzard to place but after you have loaded the MDL file make sure you apply the above settings in the material editor and then your trees should display correctly in fsx and P3D i use this method and it works without error for me :) hope this makes sense to you

OMG Stew thank you very much you saved my life,

im not gonna forget that in my life !

im gonna try and tell you later thanks very very much man !!

and by the way the texture converts automatically to the power of two

No problem :) then just make sure when u saved your DDS file you saved it as a DXT3 or DXT5 then that should solve your problem :)

Stew

Thank YEWWWWWW!....gotta question regarding how a model OR .bgl can be placed and end up as an entirely DIFFERENT object...gotta take my pre bus run nap....more later....Thanks again for my Magnolia transparency in P3Dv2.2....the texture worked in v1.4...
but not in 2.2 until I found your info!
