• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

I did a number of radar gauges. Look at it and see whether the gauges are doing that, what you are looking for. Search the AVSIM lib with the name "Dietmar Loleit".

Is there a way to make the fsxa radar screen show:

a. objects at ground level (e.g. ai-vessels)
b. online traffic?

Look in the FSX SDK "XML Gauge Maps" for the information:

ObjectDetailLayerVehicles
-1 = Default
0 = Draw nothing
0x1 = Track line
0x2 = Ground vehicles
0x4 = Airborne vehicles
0x8 = Racing vehicles Acceleration only

Online traffic is not able to be displayed as far as I know without some third-party support via FSUIPC...

Bill,

so far correct. But what means " b. online traffic?" ??
If the question is regarding VATSIM traffic, the answer is NO, as far as my radar gauges are concerned. Only AI traffic will be displayed.

Dietmar

Hi Dietmar, hi Bill,

thanks a lot for your replies. Onlinetraffic indeed ment IVAO or VATSIM Traffic. I will for sure have a look into your gauges Dietmar. :)
Bill, that one looks like what I was looking for. :) I will give it a try.

The radar will display other multiplayer aircraft.

Maybe everyone knows this, but if you wanted to display a track line, aircraft on ground and aircraft in air, you add the numbers so you can use something like
Code:
	7 (>L:VehicleObjectDetail)

If you're using a custom variable to control it...

Here is a complete bit of script that fits in the <CustomDraw...> section:

Code:
	<!-- =============FSX TCAS ============== -->
	<LayerVehicles>1</LayerVehicles>
	<DetailLayerVehicles>
		(L:G1000_TFC,enum) 0 == if{ 0 }
				      els{ 1 }
	</DetailLayerVehicles>
	<TextDetailLayerVehicles>
		(L:G1000_TFC,enum) 0 == if{ 0 }
				      els{ 1 }
	</TextDetailLayerVehicles>
	<ObjectDetailLayerVehicles>0x07</ObjectDetailLayerVehicles>
	<ColorLayerVehicles>(L:G1000 TOPO, enum) 2 ==
                     if{ 0x006666 } els{ 0x44ffff }
	</ColorLayerVehicles>

In the <CustomDraw...> section:
I use
Code:
<ObjectDetailLayerVehicles>0x7</ObjectDetailLayerVehicles>

Multiplayer traffic IS displayed on the FSXA radar. I use it all the time.
Likewise, the derivitive of that gauge, the ANR75 Raytheon radar gauge
also displays multiplayer traffic.

I do not think I had to do anything extra to get that traffic to display however
I'm not certain as I have modified those gauges a great deal and don't recall
what the default gauges actually looked like.

Same to me Bill. No interest on multiplayer at all. Seems we are no good real pilots.

Oh, I'm certainly good enough, I just could give a toss about all the rigamarole with VATSIM and IVAO, and GameSpy seems only to attract totally idiotic teenyboppers... :rolleyes:

Completely aside from which I really just don't have time, since I'm months behind on many of my projects... :o

That's why a small group of us fly multiplayer on Saturdays using a friend's private FSHost server - makes all the difference. :)

Well said Tom
I'm also in a small group, mostly ex military jet fighter people. One of us hosts using nothing special and we communicate with Skype.

We do a lot of formation flying which is very realistic. So realistic that on occasion when I need to transmit a message I find myself pressing the transmit button on the throttle. Actually it is the speedbrake button, which tends to screw up my formation!

Apart from the flying, it gives me an opportunity to make aitcraft for a small group of friends rather than just for myself, so it is a social outlet as well.

Not my experience at all. I fly with a group that is flying a round-the-world set of hops in the A2A Accu-Sim B-17G and also with
a group called the 91st Bombardment Squadron. Both groups are made up of dedicated, mature folks.

A simple password on a Gamespy Hamachi session keeps out any potential troublesome individuals.

I don't fly on Vatsim as I have no need/use for ATC. Both the groups above are engaged in formation flying and WWII mission recreation.

Practically all the aircraft flown are from the A2A Accu-Sim inventory and enhance the experience well beyond what one might have in
a "stand-alone" situation, IMO.

I, too, have projects of my own that I try to keep moving forward . Many of which are related to the two above groups, but others are
just "busy work" for my mind :)

I suppose I am biased toward the online, massively multiplayer experience since I first encountered it in its' infancy through "Air Warrior" back
in the early 1990's. There is still a strong community that keeps in touch regularly that met during those early days. Quite a different
experience than what some of you seem to have had.

Paul,
I remember Air Warrior well.
It was very compulsive though awfully primitive by todays standards.
I do remember one session where I was the leader of 64 B-17 that took off from 4 bases to bomb somewhere. Took a huge amount of organization.
The problem was not with the experienced pilots, it was the walk-on gunners who could not hit a thing and planes fell.
I remember having lost all engines in a B-17 and doing a dead-stick landing over friendly territory which took about 15 minutes and I was the last to land.
My favorite plane was the Mossie. Get it going fast up high and nothing could touch you.
There was a monthly bombing scoreboard!
In my time all communication was by text and I could not fly and type at the same time. I first heard of Princess Diana's death while monitoring Air Warrior messages.

As you said it was a great community. The lead guy in my group used Jordi as his callsign and I used 43RAF. It is a while back but I think our group was the Avengers. Lot of fun while it lasted.

My current group does SEA 1960 to 1970 missions. Mostly we use the F-105 and I have a fully FSXA compliant F-105F version in test. We also use a RF-101C and F-100D that I made and my current project is an HH-3E.

I have always had a thing about the B-17. Made one a while back and I've attached a zoomed out cockpit shot.

Wasn't it Jordi who ran the Air Warrior convention in Indianapolis, IN?

I was... well... I was WARPD in Air Warrior... member of the Brewster Buffalos.

I know "Jordi"...He still posts on the "Bigweek" NNTP newsgroup hosted by
another of the old Air Warriors. He's also on FaceBook on the "A kill has been recorded" AW group, along with DoK Gonzo, Grey Eagle, Moggy, Quarters and many more.
I'll let Jordi know I ran into "43RAF" :)

Back in the day I flew either the B-17 or A-26 and was the top Buff scorer for many a campaign :)

Our community in the early days was very dedicated. You had to be to
pay $6/hour to fly on the GEnie network that hosted AW back then.

Many of use have attended the AW Conventions over the years and Jordi (Mike Bowman) hosted an AW Reunion a couple of years ago.

Another AW pilot from the very early days, HiTech (Dale Adinck), went on to create "Aces High"
after Electronic Arts bought the rights to Air Warrior from Kesmai and killed it off.

True, that AW graphics were pretty crude by todays standards, but then it
was the "beginning" of the online multiplayer experience and the PC in
the home was still in its' infancy. I was writing code in assembly language
or creating my own "language" to program the bit-slice processor I designed
into a project I was working on down in Silicon Valley. Ah, the 70's and 80's...those were the days. :)

Yes it was. He also ran an AW Reunion Con there a couple of years ago.

I was Gypsy Baron, the evil twin of Blue Baron :)

I still use that handle as my online personna.

My AW CPID was m4580 plus a couple of other "shade" accounts :)
