• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

if you have no skill because GMax, you can your first Hangar set in the FS in 2-3 Days.

1/2 Day to install GMax
1/2 Day to learn the basics of Boxes, Planes and other Geometries
1/2 Day to build your Hangar
1 Day for Texturing,
1/2 Day to learn because the Export from GMax and Import to FS.

What ever happened to FSDS by Abacuspub? Bambi 007 wrote the following: if you have no skill because GMax, you can your first Hangar set in the FS in 2-3 Days.

Gmax is "very" hard. I spent 3 days on the first tutorial. The next day, I could not get the animation to work after re-following the instructions. BUT-I only have a high school education and am 63!! Could be a problem there!!

The question was the "best" software to use, not the "easiest to learn" nor "the only software made specifically for modelling in flight simulator."

I will have my say.

gmax is the "better" modelling program. There are people that take to gmax like a duck to water. I've been battling with it since FS2002 days, and still feel uncomfortable with it. IT has the benefit that MS ACES wrote the modelling tools for it (and Max).

FSDS is "easy" for me. It has always lagged behind gmax in being able to take advantage of the latest MS tools (because the tools had to come out first, then digested and FSDS adapted to them).

However, the biggest advantage that FSDS has is that it can compile a model (or scenery bgl) directly, without having to process an intermediate file or manually compile the files.

The bottom line, however, is that the final result depends more on the modeller's ability than the program used.

(Theoretically, all you need is notepad - as long as you have the smarts and ability to image and create the x file needed by makemdl.exe ...)
