• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SDX, No TOOLS

Hi,

I have followed all the information on the set up, and as per information I downloaded the ADE stuff. I cant see anything wrong in what I have done.

My Fsx.cfg file does not contain any entries regarding SDX even though I renamed it and then ran the game to reset the FSX.CFG?

Here is the report from ADE, however ADE tells me its not registered and it shows this on report, unsure how to fix that one?

Here is my dll file

Hi buzz887,

When you say "tools", do you mean Gmax?

It is in the Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\FSX_GmaxGamePack folder.

Remember that Gmax has to be registered at the Discreet website.
(I think it takes you there the first time you click the Gmax.exe)

Also, if installed/registered correctly, it should show up in the same directory as the above listed Program Files folder, in a folder named gmax.
(Again, from memory the only time you use the actual SDK folder is to get to the Gmax.exe, from the time you have the separate gmax folder in the main directory, you use the Gmax.exe found there to open Gmax, don't double-click on a Gmax source file to open Gmax or you may be missing the FS Tools drop-down menu).

And finally, the GmaxGamePack folder needs to be copied from the above directory to the gmax/gamepacks folder.

It has been a while since I installed the SDK, so use the above as hints for things to verify.

Cheers

Hi Gman,

I am trying to the tools for the Mission Builder to show in FSX, if you have any idea of what I am doing wrong I would greatly appreciate it. I am not sure if its related to anything you speak of regarding Gmax, however I dont think so.

Hi Folks

Buzz -
Your issue is not GMax related.

As your ADE Check report
is saying ADE isn't installed,
it may be an issue with UAC on Windows 7,
that you hadn't the appropriate admin rights.

This would also explain your dll.xml,
in that your likely editing a virtualised copy,
rather than the active version.

You'll need a Vista or Win 7 user to explain the howtos.

I have installed ADE using administrator and with UAC at Zero and yet and it still does not register where ADE is in registry.

I will try and install the SDK for mission building as administrator and see how that goes.

Hi Folks

Buzz -
Have you since run ConfigSDK.exe as admin ?

N.B.
The SDK tools menu -
- Is not available in the SDK GUI menu.
- Is only displayed on the menu-bar from within a flight.

Yes I have, but will once again run it today to see if it then displays the tools.

Can you advise me, as I have never seen what it should show when it installed correctly, am I right in thinking when in the sim and sitting in cockpit, that go into options on the menu bar via ALT and thats where the "tools" reside?

++++++Ran configsdk+++++ Still no tools

Please advise

One of the problems is that W7 is very protective of the "Program Files(x86)" tree.

Where did you find dll.xml? In W7 it is in Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\

This is my "Tools" menu, note. I have only Traffic Toolbox active.

and my Add-Ons menu

Have you tried installing FSUIPC 4? That usually fixes problems with dll.xml. See:

Buzz -
Correct, it should appear towards the right-hand end.

EDIT -
Cheers George.
I was just about to PM you for assistance. :D

Many thanks

Hi Again,

Dll file is in same place as you speak off.

FSUIPC 4 install did not fix the dll. Although it is now a feature on the menu bar as an Addon (thank you for that).

ConfigSDK did not appear to do anything, mind you it goes fairly quickly in the command box, and does not give any type of report of failure or success.

I did notice when I deleted my FSX.cfg file, it recreates it ok, however it never recreates with the paths to the sdk?

So what can be wrong, is it a full reinstall of FSX that I need to do.

All assistance greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Folks

Buzz -
I've just taken another look at your dll.xml,
and now realise you'd manually typed all 3 paths,
as you've done so incorrectly.

Wrong
C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\
Correct

Note there should be a space between Files and (x86).

Paul, your a dancing bear! (the expression means your great), :)

For info, I had copied and pasted the first part of the path and inadvertantly took the space away. DOH! is me!

Excellent work Paul, I updated the dll file and entered a space as you stated, tested and its now working! I cant thank you enough and give you my sincere apologies.

Cheers

Not heard that expression for a while. :D
Brother-in-law used to use it, (Greenock, now Paisley).

No worries.
Sorry I didn't spot your missing space earlier.
