• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

no matter what i do, what i try to export, i get these errors whenever i click ok to start the exporting process.

Error! - ConvertData failed!
Error! - Failed to run exporter!
Flight Simulator Model Exporter error - Failed to export model "C:\...\...\box'.
Export - Export module failure

yes, i followed various tutorials, so im not doing anything wrong.
im using windows 7 x64, sdk sp2, everything updated properly, drivers, directx, etc.

the only thing: i installed gmax in program files(x86) folder. could that be the problem?

help?
thanks in advance.

The typical installation has gmax into the main (C:\) folder: C:\gmax ...

While I use XP, I believe that avoiding the Vista/Win7 über protective "program folders" is best for "older" programs.

will try that when i get home.
but you sure thats the cause?
coz if its not that, then i have no idea

i use w7 64 home prem...all my files in programs x86...uac turned off...i have no problems.....but i do have gmax installed outside of x86.....download ADE..and run the check...it will help...and you might find ADE usefull in the future.....jim

i installed gmax directly on c:\gmax and it didnt fix it, but gave me some startup errors when i loaded from fsx gmaxgamepack shortcut. wrong paths in the ini files were the problem, so i fixed, and tried to export again, but the same exact errors from before.

so im contacting autodesk to get a 2008 license, as it seems to be the only way to get this going :/

Where did you install the FSX SDK?

Did you run the configsdk.exe program to adjust the Registry entries?

The fact that many hundreds of folks who are using GMax and exporting successfully is proof enough that the process does work...

...provided one has in fact installed all the pieces perfectly! :D

To be perfectly frank, the odds of achieving successful installation of Max2008 are not favorable, as the installation and configuration of Max and FSK SDK is even harder!

For Windows 7

It is installed in the X86 folder, but you also need to download the XML parser (Someone help me here) for Windows 7. And if you are planning to use those good ole utilities you used in XP you better get A virtual machine that works on Windows 7 home. I installed my XP on "VMWARE Player." It allows me to run XP almost exactly as they allow on Windows 7 Professional. Anything that you used before can be used on this player running XP like it was on your network. (internet access, updates, seperate drive for saves....etc.) When you set up GMax for the first time i suggest you use the HEIDI configuration. Open GL caused me to see white a few times in all my windows and using Direct 3D gives you this weird memory warning when you work on the small scale. Another really good thing to do would be to get NGIX to tell you where he keeps his Middleman/MdlCommander files. And its very important to follow the procedure on this site for loading the fsx game pack in the proper stages.

Vincent .. I disagree completely ... sorry.

I use all tools (Gmax /3DSMax, Sbuilder, ADE etc) in Windows7 native.

The HEIDI driver is awful ....

The best solution is to rightclick your Start ICon for GMax, and disable desktop Composition on the Compatibility tab. 3DSMax seems to do this automatically.

Use the Direct3D driver in Max/Gmax, Configure the Bitmap sizes to the maximum allowed 512 and 1024, and set match Bitmap completely.

The only other occasional problems you will have are with path sleection (Legacy Win7 bug it would appear) and with the occasional 32bit flag (Corflags) if you use a 64bit O/S

Everything else is working fine here on 2 computers running Win7 x86 and Win 7 x64

gees....

Man ill try all that. Thanks, maybe i ought to withhold comment as I'm a newb. I didnt troubleshoot those issues thoroughly as i found "good enough" with Heidi. It did look better inside the program to use the other drivers. I'll give you that. The output didnt seem to suffer from any choice. Or was i not looking closely enough? and yes im using 64 bit,

HEIDI:

Transparency and shading awful

Won't render in hi-resolution ... horrible aliasing on faces with hi-res textures.

Slow.
