• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I just got a new 64 bit PC, loaded FSX and inmediatly SbuilderX, installation went fine But now when I set up a new project and go into "Show Aircraft" I get an "error communicating with FSUIPC".....can someone tell me how to fix this????
Thanks.....

Is it just SBuilder or is it any program that tries to communicate with FSUIPC?

Hi Jon....Got it fixed I had forgotten I had not installed FSUIPC, once I did it worked just fine, sorry for the alarm......I still have a doubt about Windows 7 which I started using with this new PC. How can I make all forlders to be writteble, W7 is requiring me to go to the folder I want to save the .bgl generated by Sbuilder and other programs and tell it to let it be written apparently folders are set to be read only.....I am beginning to dislike this OS alright.....:mad:

Obviously you installed FSX into the default location. That is the problem, since this area is heavily protected...

The best scheme is to install FSX and any other FS related tools to custom locations, such as:

C:\FSX
C:\FSX_Tools

etc.

Gera,

Although I'm a big fan of Windows 7, I have yet to find away to automate the Read/Write privlidges of any folder that getts added into FSX - I end up changing each one individually from "Read Only".

That said, and I'm not sure this would help much, but I found that if you copy a file to your desktop and then copy them back into the FSX folder (e.g. if you are modufying an aircraft.cfg file to add a repaint) then it seems to allow you to have read/write access afterwards.

BTW, I thought I saw somewhere (maybe in these forums) that MS officially didn't support FSX in Windows 7 64 bit.

Never crossed my mind this would be a hazard, I got the new machine with a Tera Disk just to full around with so much stuff I have in FSX, if I would have known I sure would have done that......

I guess Windows 7 was never told that...so far it works quite well. If it starts crashing for no reason I'll know the reason!!!!!:eek::eek:...:duck:, MS has always had a nack at making the life of its users a hassle or a pain somewhere so now I'll have to get used at making the folders "writable" before I send something to them, I sometimes wonder who really programs up there, their brains sure are totally different than the ones us users have.

Keep in mind that during the development of FSX, Win7 was still a pipe-dream. A lot of last minute scrambling was needed to get it to work at all.

Actually, I've never installed any version of FS into the default path, since I've never cared much for the really ridiculously long path names!

Moving FSX after installation is really a trivial matter though, since there is only one Registry entry for FSX, and it's so easy to edit! ;)

As far as giving "bulk permissions" to folders and sub-folders go, if you select the parent folder name in the left side of Explorer, you can select the "Properties" for that folder. There's an option to "Apply these settings to all folders and subfolders?"

Thank you N4GIX....appreciate you directions, will move FSX, I did that a few years ago and as you say had no trouble. Will check on the write permissions for folders since its really a pain as it is......why does MS make things so hard, security??? come´n!!!!!.....Oh well, we have to live with it dough, no use fighting it.....Thanks again:).....now I go to the FSDS section, having some issues with it!!!!!!....XP was great, there is a saying around here, " Do not fix what´s not broken" but there is always someone smarter and goes ahead a fixes it........By the way, just saw your Cessna Citation, what a beauty!!!! let me re-load the card and will buy it, had it in FS9 and was my scenery testing aircraft, a real lady even for short airfields......

I've tried that - maybe I have something amis in my default settings but it always seems to reset back to read only.

Thanks George, after reading the procedure I still think MS Windows 7 is really as bad as Vista if not worse....they have found a way to install "burocracy" into the OS as never before......but will see if it works, what a real pain!!!!!
