• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello All

Does anyone here know how to make a "cone" like the little orange ones
you see at the airport. I use FSDS3 . I know I can get one on Avsim I think in a pack but I want one I can make to my liking.

Hi,

In GMAX you could use the lofting method.
I read via Google that you can use in FSDS the clone technique.
Hope that's helps a little.

Thank you for responding. Im so new at this design stuff Im not sure what
exactly your talking about. (sorry) Can you please give me a brief description
of the idea ?

Thanks again
Mike

Hi,

This is for GMAX: "Building a Nosecone with lofting techniques
This short approximately 8 minute flash video walks you through using spline shapes to create a rough nosecone that is easily modified for desired finish."

Via Google: "FS alpha", where a lot of interesing video tutorials can be dowloaded.

I thin you can make a cone on another way with GMAX with the "non-uniform scale tool".

Why not simply create a vertical cylinder, and then shrink/weld all the top vertices? Or is that to simple?

FSDS *has* a cone primitive.

Other than that, if you want to get fancy with a rounded "top", it's a vertical cylinder with several sections, all sections "bunched" at the top and scaled in turn to "round off".

Actually, that's that same way I would build it in gmax or FSDS....

Now, if you want a nice soft ice cream cone swirl, THEN you can have a lot of fun in max/gmax with a twist modifer....

YES! that's too easy. We're FSDS luddites! We LIKE to complicate things!

<all: above is to be taken humorously - it is a continuation of a cross-forum running banter with Fr. Bill - call it... I'm his cross to bear>

Mike,

In case you haven't yet got it figured out, here's one that I just made, along with the .fsc file.

I know it looks like it's on steroids, but it only took a couple of minutes to make.
