• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS 3 problem!

Been using FSDS for scenery design for about 1 year, but suddenly I discovered a weird problem when trying to both "CLONE" and "COPY"/"PASTE" a part.

I make a tube the size I want it, then try to copy it and paste it and all I get is the little tiny end showing up, the same happens when Im trying the CLONE.
Also tried making first one, shaping it and then make another from the start, the same thing happends..

Help!

Hi Lorenz, From your pic it is showing quite clearly what you are saying. You will find that sometimes happens when you do copy and paste or clone this happens but not so often. Probably just a bug in FSDS, who knows?
One thing you could try though is to give the copied object a texture - something simple from the default textures (i.e. grass or asphalt) and then take a look at it. Put the texture on all sides including the top and bottom - you can always take it off later.
It would help also if you could post the fsc files before and after if possible - although after will be ok as well then I can take a look at it. You will have to zip it to upload it though.

Thanks for the tip, still no joy tough! Weird thing is I have been cloning parts many many times, but never seen this happend before.

The FSC file is included here.

Hi Lorenz,

Thanks for uploading the files.
1. First - the bmp you are using is 24 bit - this you must change. I use 32 bit for all my bmp's but you can make them almost anything you want (except 24 bit) - DXT1 etc. Have a look on the forums for posts by Arno - there are hundreds(!) - he is a real wizz - knows almost everything! Perhaps you are changing the format already?
2. I could not replicate your error but what happened to me was that I copied it and it did not appear. I saved the fsc file, closed it then re-opened it. This made it appear. I cloned it and it was ok - no problem at all. It may be a minor bug in the Preview Window that will get fixed in the next upgrade.
3. Make sure that you close both ends - this may help. You could try making the mdl file and see if it appears in fs9 - just to see if the same thing happens. In which case it is just in FSDS that it doesn't appear.

I think it has to do with my computer or videodriver, tried the project on another PC and there it works like a charm.. Humm!

Hi,

I think I have a similar issue since I use a nvidia 8800gtx. Everything was fine with my ati 9800pro, but now, I get parts or polygons disappearing in the 3D preview with any of my projects. I can't use FSDS anymore and it really pisses me off.

This is what I get in FSDS (click for the full res image, where I've circled the disappeared parts/polys) :

And this is what I get in FSX, where everything is normal (it's an .API placed with FSSC) :

What's your videocard Lorenz?

You're right about the 8800 card, you can't use FSDS with it, at least as long as you're using XP. The problem is the nVidia driver. The Vista driver works fine. Now that 3.5 has been released which solves the negative normals in Vista you can make use of the 8800 with FSDS. - hope that helps

Thanks a lot for the information Brian.

I'm just a little bit surprised to hear that I need to change my OS and buy an upgrade for something that should have been solved FREELY by Abacus. Or else, WE, the customers, have to contact nvidia and modify their website to mention the incompatiblity? I'm gonna ask... :D

Just how is it the reponsibility of a software program to "fix" a video card manufacturer's lousy drivers?

Sorry to point out the obvious, but it's nVidea's responsibility to make their hardware and driver(s) work with the operating system!

What you're suggesting is a silly as someone blaming MS/ACES for not coding FS to run under Linux, Unix, Sun MicroSystems, or MacOS! :scratchch :rotfl:

From a post in the FFDS forum:

I did question nVidia about the driver issue - their reply was that the card was not intended for design work and that I should invest in a Quadro if I wanted to do that

Quadro

Does Nvidia realize what an assinine response that is and what position that puts thousands of "dabblers" in? Quadro is a function specific piece of hardware for design professionals. Consumers purchase video cards that we expect will cover a broad spectrum of tasks, maybe not accomplishing some as well as others but capable across the board, none the less.

This 8800 GTOC will likely be the last Nvidia product I ever purchase if I have any reasonable alternative. I'm starting to regret not waiting on ATI... Then again what surprises await me on the other side? Do they have the same attitude?

PSB

I've been through 3 Quadro cards at work and have given up on them. They overheat the moment I try and put them under any stress and go unreliable within a few days. I've also put a couple of Quadros in and found my PC wont even boot. So I traded 5 of them with my IT dept for a run of the mill 7950GT and have had no further problems.
