• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Sorry ... getting mad with effects

Sorry, but I'm not yet using ADE, even if I downloaded it (yet to learn about :) )

So I'm making the .xml file and compiling it with BglComp.exe.
Then I copy the .bgl in
FSX Root/Addon Scenery/Piombino/scenery

Last tests I position the effect right at the rwy 28 holding point of LIME Bergamo Orio al Serio, where I jump in with my aircraft;
with
- Cntrl_SmokeStack.fx
- fx_SmokeStack2.fx

Doesn't work :mad:

with
- fx_ForestFireLarge.fx

it works !!!!!!!!!! (I mean it places a fire !!!)

Here again my xml:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<FSData version="9.0"
        xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
        xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">
<!-- cORRETTE lat="45.5122051" lon="9.5106213" -->
<!-- oRIO Apt lat="45.6720564" lon="9.7045557"    Cntrl_SmokeStack.fx     effectParams="day=1;night=0"-->
    <SceneryObject lat="45.5122051" lon="9.5106213"
                   alt="1.5M" pitch="0.0" bank="0.0"
                   heading="0" altitudeIsAgl="TRUE"

    <LibraryObject name="{06f07fac-c109-4eea-c5df-cd9730d99861}"
                   scale="1.0"/>

    </SceneryObject>
	<ModelData
	sourceFile="PPCassano.MDL"/>

	<SceneryObject

lon="9.72381"
alt="0.0M"
altitudeIsAgl="TRUE"
pitch="0"
bank="0"
heading="0"

<Effect

</SceneryObject>

I still cannot get it to work properly. Even starting with the default scenery, I don't see smoke until I activate the photo-scenery.

I do have NL2000, so it would be useful if you could you send me your test file Roby.

Sorry, George, it shows up in my other photosceneries as well, even on a custom placed carrier.
Mind, I have not compiled the xml but used both MCX and ADE to add the effect to the various sceneries.
Now I still have to delete the smoke from all of them:(.
Hope you find out because I do not have a clue.

Roby

PS here is my test fx file (without the stoptemp) but I am not sure what file you want.

But I guess it is the same as you have.
I am running out of other ideas.

PS: Paolo, you do not need a cntrl.fx for such a simple fx. But if you have ADE, then try to add an effect to your scenery using ADE to see if that helps.
PS2: George, I send you what exactly???

Perhaps you could try my ADE file. You won't have the models but you should see the Cub and (possibly) the effect.

I see that you did a separate compile whereas I use combined.

Anyway, I have the same problem, I need to inhibit and activate the photo-textures before I see your smoke.

Could it be an Acceleration poblem ?

If I change any area in the scenery library, either inhibit or enable, the smoke appears :eek:

Sorry mates ... I wasn't aware I was going to maake such a mess :)

Just to add a bit more info, George: I do have Acceleration, and I'm using the default scenery ...

To Robystar: ok ... I have just dwnloaded ADE; it will take a while to learn how to use it ! I'm no so fast in learning: I'm 63 y.o. :)

But for sure I'll give ADE a try ! I would like to update some airports: LIME, LILV (to be done anew) LIMW ... the ones I made for FlightGear :)

Paolo

Paulo,

After loading your flight near where you should see the smoke, go to "World/scenery library" and uncheck one of the areas (not the one with the effect).

Do you now see the smoke?

Hi George,

I attach the ADE workfile of my place to check one last time.
It is supposed to be used with the NL2000 scenery.
You will not see the house because you do not have the custom texures and I do not know if you will see many trees because they are the seasonal ones (see scenery object list). But the effect is there, always.
I cannot think that Acceleration would make any difference because, as far as I know, it is the same as sp2 except for some extra functionality, some extra scenery objects and autogen.

Your file behaves in exactly the same way. If I start a flight at EHWH and position the aircraft near the effect I see this:

If I then go to World->Scenery Library and make a change, I see this:

However, I have a friend running Acceleration who has no difficulty in seeing the effect on my bgl :confused:

It must be something on both of my systems but I have no idea what :banghead:

Hi,

I was going to suggest that you make a change to the effect file.
Make a copy of the fx_smokestack2.fx and name it whatever you like.
Delete the stoptemp entry completely, set the emitter lifetime to 0.00 0.00 and save.
At least that way it has become another effect and as other effects show...
I cannot check it here because it shows always, whatever I do.
if it has to do with your system, then it has to do with the system of Paolo as well. Seems a bit unlikely unless you two would have the same systems twice. I am running Vista 32 bit.

All very good suggestons Roby.

Unfortunately the only one which worked was setting the emitter lifetime to 0,0.

I found an entry of some time ago in some Danish forum and they had the same problem, even in FS9.
It does not explain the why of it all, though.

Hi George.

Object exclusions covering the effect location in the same scenery folder have been known to interfere with effects showing. That's why I have been preaching small exclude rectangles since 2006, to lessen the chances of an exclude overlapping the effects you add.

It might be the problem?

Dick

That cannot be the cause, Dick, because I used George's ADE file AND his cvx. With me it shows always, with him and Paolo it does not.

Hi Dick,

I don't have any exclusion rectangles in that area.

Anyway, why would checking/unchecking a scenery area fix it?
