• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello, i have a plobleme.
When i use the plugin xtomdl for max9 it crash.
And when i use the plugin for max7 in max9 it's working
but i can create a platform with the attachpointtool.
My helicoptere pass throuth, so can't land.
Maybe i must use the xtomdl plugin of max9?
Why the plugin xtomdl for max9 crash?
and why the platform don't work?
Thx everyone.

The Max9 plugin is working just fine for me, you most have done something wrong. Are its not max9 you are using if the max7 plugin is working for you, I cant use the max7 plugin in max9.

Thx.
yes i use max9 and my acetool menu work fine.
It's when i drop my .x file on the xtomdl.exe(in the max9 map) for have a mdl file, and then it crash.

Hi! Try to set the regional and language settings in windows to english, so that the commas and points are exchanged. This way it worked for me!

If this does not help, ignore my post.

Best regards,

Charly

You cannot simply "drop (your) .x file on the xtomdl.exe"...

XtoMDL.exe is a "Command Line" driven tool and needs to have a lot of extra information before it can do its job...

This is covered in the SDK (which all too few people bother to actually look at, much less read...)

See this Wiki article for detailed instructions:

Thx Charly but it's not workin.

Tinder, if the sdk tells you how to do it, and you do it differently....well...at that point questions that come to mind feel pretty irrelevant.

The only relevant acts are to read the sdk and follow it. Right?

Bob5568.
I use the commande line of the xtomdl.exe like the doc says and i got this erreur:

Onverwerkte uitzondering: System.IO.FileLoadException: Kan bestand of assembly XToMdl, Version=10.0.61637.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35 of

De zone van de mislukte assembly is:
MyComputer

C:\Windows>

I have a dutch Windows, so the error is in dutch.
Maybe you can do something with that.

Just a thought here. Have you renamed the files Max9_FSModelExp.dle, Max9_MaxUtils.gup and Max9_MaxXML.gup to FSModelExp.dle, MaxUtils.gup and MaxXML.gup? As this is required for the Max9 sdk to work.

If you are running Vista, you will likely need to set permissions for the folders where XtoMDL.exe is stored. Unless you explicitly set the permissions, you are not "allowed" to write or modify files in that folder, which of course is just what XtoMDL.exe is trying to do!

Pakmac.
I have change the name of the files, but it's the same it crash.

N4gix.
All the permission are ok.
But maybe i do something wrong.
Can you explaine how to do this?

Maybe i have a corrupt xtomdl max9
Where can i found this file?

From the Windows Explorer, rightclick on the folder name, and select Properties. Use the Security tab to set Permissions for that folder. You may also need to click the Advanced button to refine the Permissions level.

Where did you get the xtomdl.exe to begin with? It is contained in the FSX SDK (SP2 or Acceleration only).

N4gix.
Ok, this is the same way i do, so i have the full permissions.
And i get the xtomdl.exe from acceleration.
It's to bad, nobody know why it's not working.
Very strange.
Thx.

Tinder-Red.

Ahhhhhhh................
I'm just trying with the Acceleration SDK, and I have same problem!
The XtoMDL.exe file included with 3dsM9's plugins, not work at all.
Every time I run this program, I got a crash message, I try it with 4 computers, with XP, with XP 64, with Vista, with Vista 64, the same problem!
The another one, included with 3dsM7's plugins, no problem at all......:(

I've mentioned this many, many times...

The copy of XToMdl.exe in the 3DSM9 folder is not code-signed by Microsoft, and because of this will not run!

The copy of XToMdl.exe in the 3DSM7 should be used instead. There is absolutely no other difference between them aside from the lack of code-signing.

As proof of this, I "code-signed" the 3DSM9 copy with my company's certificate, and -not surprisingly- it works just fine! :D

I have some problems when I try to make the .mdl
As I read above, I have rename the Max9_FSModelExp.dle, Max9_MaxUtils.gup and Max9_MaxXML.gup to FSModelExp.dle, MaxUtils.gup and MaxXML.gup.
Then I create a shortcut in my desktop and name it
CompileAircraft.

In this tutorial http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=XtoMDL.exe
says to add this as target of the shortcut:
%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /K C:\Autodesk\Max8\3DSM7\Plugins\xtomdl.exe /XANIM /DICT:C:\Autodesk\Max8\3DSM7\Plugins\modeldef.XML > buildlog.txt

Because my FSX SDk is in D: I put this as target:
%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /K D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM9\Plugins\xtomdl.exe /XANIM /DICT:D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\bin\modeldef.XML > buildlog.txt

Then when I run it, it displays me this:
'D:\Program' text in greek....
C:\Windows>

Any idea?

Hi,

If the folder names contains space, you need to put quotes around it. So try this:

%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /K "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM9\Plugins\xtomdl.exe" /XANIM /DICT "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\bin\modeldef.XML" > buildlog.txt

OK I fixed it. But it crashes...
I run it as administrator and says me:
(Text in Greek about errors)
C:\Windows\system32>

When I do it the same for the XToMdl.exe of the 3DSmMax7 it says me: C:\Windows\system32>

I have Windows Vista 32bit greek version. Is this a problem?

Hi,

Your error message is not visible, so I am afraid that makes it hard to suggest fixes.

It is a known problem that the 3DS9 XtoMDL is not correct and will crash. MS forgot to sign the file, so you should use the XtoMDL from the 3DS7 gamepack. There is no difference in that compiler anyway.
