• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Possible Virgin Galactic Project

As far as "We", there are tons of people that followed/downloaded the "Spaceflight" addon, plus there were several other addons that tried to make it work, so, there are "Us" :D

Fair enough, but still, I find a mere "we" too encompassing.

Yes, it is orbiting at correct altitude and speed. The FSX speed limitation is in effect only if you actually use FSX flight model, which I (using SimConnect) turned off and imposed my own.

Does your FM just cover space related stuff or aircraft AND space stuff?

If not, how and when do you switch between FMs?

Excellent point. I've been thinking about how to implement this, and I'm hoping that it would be possible to switch Flight Model in flight from FSX's to Custom. This would be done at the upper threshold of FSX's speed limit (I think it is 3000 km/h or thereabouts) and at that speed even FSX Flight model behaves basically like a rocket, and the transition would be seamless. I know for a fact that the FSX Flight Model can be programatically switched off in mid-flight, and/or replaced by a custom one (which basically tells the object where it is and where it's pointing, position and attitude) ... Something still to test out.

Well, if it's possible, I'd go for the "all out" approach. FSX's FM is quite buggy and having a new one to start with could benefit just about everyone, not only the rocketheads.

There's no way I will even attempt to re-write a flight model. If I tried, I'd perhaps come close to something FSX has now in about 10 years, except with 10X more bugs :o Like I said - FSX can take it to it's own hypersonic speed limit, and then I switch to ballistic/rocket FM... And I'd be super happy if that worked seamlessly.

Hi All
I am involved with Virgin in some ways and I suggested a FS project connected to the Virgin Galactic initiaitive. They are initially interested but wanted some information.

The VG project starts with an aircraft (White Knight Two) that takes off and climbs to 60,000 feet and then launches the spacecraft Space Ship Two which continues the climb to 100km or so. Then it glides back to Earth.

I thought there was a lot of potential here - flying White Knight Two up to launch, launch of the ship and flying it and then the long descent home! I think this might be a lot of fun and potentially a very popular add-on.

Also, a pre-recorded flight could be used for paying passengers to see what they will be doing.

As I say, Virgin are interested and wanted some info. Such as:

-can you estimate the number of sales?
-what would they sell for?

I was thinking of an add-on for FSX/2004 but I wonder if it could be done as a simple standalone version as well?

Looking forward to learning some answers !

thanks

We, Aeroplane Heaven, produced the Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer (Steve Fosset's RTW jet glider record) package for Virgin, a few years ago. The results were good but no money was ever made despite expensive trips to London (we are in Australia) and significant interest by Virgin.

The programme went ahead but done for free and hosted by Virgin on their website. I believe you can still download the pack. We never recovered our costs.

So, beware, otherwise, like us, you may invest a lot of time and money in something that has value to Virgin but not you.

That would be a cool project. I love that space craft design.

When climbing to 60,000 feet, you could be in the lift vehicle, then at 60,000 feet, you switch over into the space craft and launch from there. The lift vehicle would drop behind you and in about 1 min or so, disappear via code.
