• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FSX ADE Cannot delete/get rid of runway.

I searched FAQ and got a little hint from the post about buildings not being deleted. I went and deleted all instances accept for one of my projects, the current one. I deleted my bgl from my Addon Scenery. I went on and tried yet again to delete the runway (KCVC) Runway 10/28 (Formerly 9A1) and I am trying to upgrade the airport as the runway is longer 5500' instead of 4200 etc. I have been able to edit and update most everything reading the manual. I have looked at how to delete a runway in the manual. Did just that. It looks deleted in ADE but yet it is stubborn when I am in FSX. I would like to have the runway on the LEFT and not the one on the RIGHT. I just performed this again and deleted well my now edited runway which is fine but again the other shorter stock runway remains. What do I do? Thanks so much!

Ok. I downloaded the scanner. I read the tutorial. Very good read and thank you that made a lot of sense and looks like yet another area to play in! LOL A couple of questions.

I used the scanner and it only came up with one case of my airport. KCVC. It did come up with the "Show only airports with multiple files" box checked. So I thought Aha. Let's go delete KCVC from the addon scenery and see what the scan is. It came back now not being able to find any instances of KCVC in the addon directory. Do I have it right then that scanning the scenery.cfg is GLOBAL for FSX? Are there other instances of scenery.cfgs or will this do it? Can I be certain now that there is no other instance of my airport?

IF NOT then what do I have to do.

IF YES I can be certain then will I be able now to go about modifying my airport and have the changes show up?

I did find another .bgl file in layer 0120. located in the addon scenery. it is BR2_CYUL.BGL what do I do with this file. It show that my KCVC airport is in the "Airports Found List" Thanks

Temporarily remove it or rename it and start FS again. See if this solves the runway problem

Temporarily take it out of the scenery folder (move it into the main folder above it) and see what happens. If that's not the problem, move it back.

If this airport is 9A1 in FS and you changed your ADE file to KCVC then the default 9A1 is still displaying, and that's what you see. You must open the stock 9A1 airport in ADE and delete everything there, then compile that alongside your KCVC ADE file (do NOT change the ICAO to KCVC, leave it as 9A1). Now the stock runway should be gone.

OH! Ok that must be what it is right there. That is how I did it. I had been re-working my copy of 9A1 by simply changing the name then compiling it as KCVC. Let me give these things a try

So now just to be clear. It is best to start a NEW airport called KCVC use all the airport parameters as in 9A1 BUT do not use 9A1 as THEE airport? Well unless I don't care how 9A1 looks right? Am I getting warmer gents?

Now I did (I think) what you said and pulled up 9a1 and deleted EVERYTHING. I compiled it saved it. I then compiled my KCVC as well. (keep in mind KCVC is a modified 9A1) I am thinking that is my problem but not sure what to do. Did not understand what you meant by "then compile that alongside your KCVC ADE file)

So I have both files in my addon scenery now and CRASH.

I ran the KCVC without the 9A1 ADE file in the addon scenery and all is well, except I still have the runway I am trying so hard to get rid of.

I ran the 9A1 ADE File without the KCVC ADE file in the addon scenery and that is the file that crashes. This is the 9A1 with everything deleted as you said.

I have solved the problem of whether it this is caused by multiple files. I am dealing with only two files in only the addon scenery folder and the folder just above the addon folder, for temp storage. One at a time so they don't confuse fsx. (As described above)

<-- However this user is getting confused. LOL

I am still new. Reading the manual but making errors.

Here is what I want to do. I wish to lengthen the runway.

I wish to extend the airport property out for said runway extenstion.

I want to move buildings around and size them accordingly.

Then, have my updated airport now be KCVC so it works in my NAVIGRAPH files for various aircraft.

Thank you in advance for your kind patience. I will get there... :)

What you did works fine for me in FS9, and I know people also do it in FSX. So I don't know why it should be crashing your computer. I would start over and get rid of the ADE file that is crashing FSX. Then start again with the stock 9A1 and remove objects, compile, and check in FSX. Do NOT save the AD3 file unless it compiles OK. You can then repeat this process until it does crash (if it ever does), and use the ADE file saved BEFORE it caused the crash. Then let us know what you removed that caused the crash.

Ok if this works and I go to make my revised airport. Do I need to start new? Fresh? New File, OR can I merely edit 9A1 into the new KCVC? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I would only replace the file that crashed your computer. The KCVC one is fine. I would normally start again with the stock 9A1 file, because I don't know what will happen if you start with your current KCVC file (make a backup first if you try it).

MASSIVE SUCCESS!!!! Thanks so much! It too me a while to wrap my head around the order of FSX and how it loads the scenery files. Then it clicked. You were dead on with what to do. What (I think) was causing the crash was having two (9A1 files) OR trying to do two different things with virtually the same file.

So I got rid of it all and started over.

1. I deleted all my ADE files that were in my Add on Scenery Files.
2. I deleted the AD3 file from MY DOCUMENTS in the AD3 folder. I renamed mine My ADE Files
3. I started with a fresh 9A1.
4. I deleted JUST the runway as I was not sure if there was an issue with my system or if there was an issue with the human typing this up.
5. Verified files were in their correct locations
6. Verified I could get there via FSX. And I did. The "NEW" 9A1 had been created without the runway. I was stoked.
7. Went back in and deleted all the rest of the objects and had a nice new "Blank" 9A1.
8. Compiled and saved and sure enough it worked on FSX.
9. Started now new with another copy of the STOCK 9A1.
10. Via ADE took out the RUNWAY only. Then I renamed it KCVC. Compiled and Saved
11. Verified it working in FSX! NICE!!

Now I can take it from here EXCEPT I need to learn how to increase the airport area size so that my new runway does not have AUTOGEN in the middle of it.
Is there a Tutorial for that. I will be heading for those and the manual next. This one I just could not seem to fix. Until now.

Thanks again so much. Happy to have this working now.

To clear the autogen look at the manual section on terrain polygons. You will need to add a new airport background polygon. You may also need to exclude the original stock airport background

Yep and that is what I Did Jon! Took me a while to grasp the polygons but here it is. This looks like Covington this time of year. I have more minutia to work on but its coming along. Thanks Jon for the pointers.

Hello I recently saw images of your Covington Municipal Airport (KCVC/9A1) Scenery. Well Covington Mun is my local Airport and I have flown out of there many time in real life and in FSX. I was wondering if your version of Covington Mun is available for download?
