• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3D Modeller Wanted (C-130 Legacy)

I am currently looking for a talented 3D Modeler to assist me in building a payware quality HC-130H for P3D. I am a real world C-130 Pilot, and hobbyist developer. I have access to the plane everyday and can provide a plethora of pictures. I have already created the engine instrumentation, rendered in Direct2D and have started working on the systems logic. If you are interested please shoot me a PM and we can go from there. I think this project has a lot of potential, and in a world of automated aircraft I think the flexibility of the Herc and a real simulation of its systems and performance data will truly be a large selling point.

Assuming that no one is interested, what's your "plan b"?

Also, "payware quality". Yeah, right...

My plan B is i'll just develop all the systems and run them in the Captain Sim 3D Model for my own proficiency.

And why would you say "Yeah, right..." to "Payware Quality"

I have a Electrical Engineering Degree with a focus in Software Design and I actively fly the aircraft. I am trying to bring a new perspective to designing these aircraft and leverage my skills and lack of necessity to be compensated for them as they are a passion for me.

Thanks for the response.

I have also successfully created an HTML5 FMS that runs on the network and interfaces with the CDI in the VC, allowing full SIDS and STARS and an updateable Nav Database, I've played flight simulator for a long time and haven't seen that implemented very often.

Don't take what people say around here -- or anywhere on the internet, for that matter -- to heart; there are far too many naysayers.

I'm not a 3D modeler, but as a programmer, it sounds like you've done a commendable effort. :) Hope to see the end result!

You sound like you're well invested in the project. You'll have to excuse Heretic, it's just that often when people post on an FS forum about recruiting for a product, they tend to be expecting a ton of free work from people while doing almost nothing themselves. That isn't representative of everyone, of course, but it tends to be pretty widespread and a lot of us have grown weary of it.

If you really want to find a 3D modeler, I'd actually suggest you go take a look over on the CGSociety forum. There are thousands of hobbyists and professional 3D artists there, and a lot of them are looking for work all the time. Something like this would probably attract some highly experienced modelers, if the price is right. Be prepared though, it probably won't come cheap.

And why would you say "Yeah, right..." to "Payware Quality"

Assume you find a modeler with a fundamental interest in incorporating your panel into an entirely new 3D model. But (s)he only does this in his/her spare time and thus does not have the money for the tools (3DS Max) or isn't familiar with the tools (Blender) to incorporate fancy static shadows or every single screw in the cockpit with high-resolution, self-made textures. Only for a model incorporting your system simulation made after the Pareto Principle (20% effort for achieving 80% of the desired goals).
So what do you do?
Say "no" from the outset because the model will contrast sharply in terms of quality with your extensive systems simulation?
Lure him/her in and then nag him/her 24/7 to do better?
Both will lead up to you ending up with no model at all.

This basically leaves you with three and a half options:
- Stay open for anyone with modeling skills and interested in the C-130
- Take UE's suggestion and pay a few (hundred) $$ for a high-poly model from a professional modeler (that still has to be brought into MSFS though)
- Do the whole model yourself. You know the plane inside out, you've got access to the real deal to take photos, you know how sitting in its cockpit has to "feel", you're familiar with software stuff. Perfect! 3DS Max and Blender isn't probably going to stop you then.
(- Release the panel stand-alone and wait for someone to take an interest in it and model the aircraft around it. This is a variation of #1. It happens. Personal experience.)

As UE said, we get these...overambitious (to put it nicely)...people here all the time and someone has to get their heads out of the clouds.
Other than most of these people, however, you are at least already working on the systems and 2D panel which is something, but only the tip of the iceberg. But automatically assuming that other people will merrily jump in with the same amount of energy and enthusiasm as you at the prospect of another rendition of a plane not even flown by a good part of simmers is a less than ideal move. You'll be lucky to find someone willing to contribute something at all. So don't be disappointed if your plan B will become your plan A in the end. Unless, of course, you take matters into your own hands.

(I also find the whole "if it isn't payware quality, it's no good" attitude that is nowadays exhibited by a good part of the community 125% disgusting. Only because you have a few diamonds in a coal mine doesn't mean that the coal is suddenly useless.)

I don't think we need to be negative about the project. Let's be happy for what this guy has in his plans! ... I love C-130s

I dare ask, do you actually enjoy this? Almost every post you make you're complaining or offering unsolicited "advice" with a somewhat imperious demeanor. I can't imagine being so negative so frequently would further one's pleasure.
What you have good sir is a blatant lack of optimism, respect for others around here, and sense of 'fun'. I sure hope if I ever find myself acting in such a manner I am wise enough to hang up my boots.

On the subject, Matty, I will speak to some of my contacts and see if anyone would be interested in assisting you. In the mean time, how familiar are you with the FSX/P3D SDK, and what languages do you code in?

You're right. Time to call it quits.

- E:
Screw that. Someone has to be the grumply old f+++ in here and as long as I still have unfinished business in the FSX world, I'm not going to throw in the towel.

You guys are free to prove me wrong when you release your "payware quality" Herc in five or ten or twenty years, but if this becomes one of the five billion stillborn add-on projects for MSFS, I reserve the right for a huge "Told you so".

Heretic is just making sure to give a bad representation of the developers community.
You could have given your same opinion with less aggressiveness and negativity.
I certainly hope one of the admins reminds you about being courteous and I reserve the right to say, "Told you so!"

Way to hijack a thread.

Sounds like you're quite talented. Best of luck.

I would also consider marketing what you have made for other developers needing this functionality, like you say, many don't offer this!

Hmm strange, Heretic is much better behaved over on the Aircraft Design Forum!
Probably due to being outnumbered by the grumpy old F's there.

Heretic, a told you so implies that this is a mega priority for me, I was simply putting some feelers out. I do have the advantage of getting paid to fly the plane which gives me an advantage most developers don't have. But I can tell you I have played flight simulator my whole life, and I am simply looking to give back to a community that gave me a lot and continues to do so. I went from flying the Captain Sim C-130 as a 12 year old to the real thing, and I owe a lot of that to simulator flying. I don't want to depart the community because I do the real thing now because I think I have a lot of insight that I can give to people who were always searching for "As Real As It Gets" like me.

I don't need money from the project, I simply said "payware" implying full systems modeling ( I think there is still a lot of room for innovation).

What I can also say is the sim I have built for myself at home certainly is "payware" quality, I just don't have the means to distribute it because it is built for a multi-computer setup since I don't have a 3D model. (I just finished writing an engine start sequence with the help of Matlab and some simulations that varies its self between each engine based on environmental factors and bleed air pressures)

Jordi, I write C# and C++. Just thought my self some web programming in order to interface my HTML5 CDU with the sim (having pretty good results so far!)

Sorry if I've been out of the thread for a little, I've been flying a good bit.

Thanks for the input and the references gents!

-Matt

Yo Matt! I think your input would still be quite welcome. I think the loss of contact we had was due to a comms breakdown when I moved from messenger to Skype. If you are still interested in helping out on the Milviz J....
