• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Airbus A350 XWB

Well I would love to see that tutorial :p

Ok Ok Ok......

I need to keep calm.....
(I can't) GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE NOWWWW PLEASEEEEEE

Really, you are doing an exellent job bro keep it up, can't wait for Beta :)

Grtz,
AScen

Glad to hear you like it Marc! But there're still a number of parts to make, such as the flaps, slats, lights and front gear unit. Then it will still need a VC, which I bet will take a while and the systems and gauges and all... So sorry but she's still a way out of release...

While looking at various images of the real aircraft I noticed one thing interesting... It seems that there's an airline specific part on the aircraft, a dome on the roof (possibly for in-flight ground connections such as WiFi and TV) that seems to be installed on the MSN 002 (F-WWCF test aircraft) and the Finnair (currently F-WZFM) aircraft but not on any other! So the Qatar airways and Vietnam Airlines, aswell as all the test aircraft except MSN 002, don't have this part... So the question is, what is it exactly? And more importantly could I add it as an airline specific part? :P

you could maybe visibility tag the object and control it via the title entry in the aircraft.cfg
This might save storage space

the only disadvantage would be that 3rd party repainters can't get their version with the object visible.

This might be a silly thought but what if I just unwrap it on the normal textures somewhere. that way people can paint it if it should be there and leave it empty if it shouldn't....

You mean if the painter puts zero alpha there the dome will be invisible?
In that case you can't use the alpha channel to blend reflections. This could also cause weird shadowing (the dome casts shadows even if not visible).

Okay I'll have to put some more thought in to that but thanks for the idea! :)

F747fly the model is beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle the VC.

Since Blender is freeware and seems to be as powerful as Max or Maya there will be more people trying their hand at modelling for FS so tutorials are greatly needed in all aspects of the software not in just one discipline.

Now I'm going to stir the pot. I can see where CEOs of Delta, Lufthansa, BOAC etc. would be excited about tube liners and modelers as well because of their lines and the modelling challenge but for the life of me I don't understand their attraction in FS. Modern airliners have to be the most boring aircraft to fly in the SIM. Sure there is some excitement on takeoff and landing but the rest of the time..... Goodnight Irene!

Rebuttal?

Hi Paul! Thanks for the kind words! I've already set up some stuff for tutorials but I've yet to find the time to sit down and explain how I do what I do....

No I've got no rebuttal to that actually.... I also would say most Airlines wouldn't be to excited about modelers or FS, frankly they can not be bothered. You're right that appart from take off and Landing, the general flight of an Airliner can be concidered "boring". Frankly that's one of the reasons why PMDG put a auto time-compressor on their latest long range airliner. And I guess that's also the reason why "the big FS companies" are hazertating with the development of wide-body aircraft. Personally I must say that after making duzens of virtual flights in A320-family aircraft through Europe and most of all Germany the actual flight becomes somewhat routine, still I love that Take Off and Landing though.

FS is very versatile as you know, I guess just as versatile as my interest for Aviation. However I love some parts more then others, but my heart beats just that faster whenever a plane passes by, disregarding what it is... be it a jet fighter, an old warbird, a jetliner from the jetage, a classic airliner or a wonderfull modern one. Yet my passion just tends to go towards the modern commercial aviation. Mind you I love it all, from F-16 to Super Constellation! There're just few aircraft I do just not like, but that's not the point I guess. I think I would be just as excited modelling a Super Constellation or an F-16, with the right people who can tell me what's what ofcourse ;) But unfortunately, like myself, most people tend to take a shiny new big-bird (no not the one from Sesame Street) out of the hangar. Why? Well it's what they know... Frankly very few people get to actually fly an F-16 or a Super Constellation. Ofcourse the follow up question would be: But isn't that what a sim is for? To experience that what is, in some way, beyond our reach? Well yes, but that just reminds people of the fact it would be out of reach, and that's something people do not like.

And surely when I board an A320, I peek into the cockpit and think: Wow if I could fly that today... And I always think that after the flight I'll try and have a chat with the pilots, but I never do... So what's the next best thing besides going into the cockpit for real? You probably guess it, flying the bird virtually.

I think I'm getting away from question though... Yes, ofcourse it isn't as exciting as a warbird, jetfighter or what have you. And when I look at what others make, helicopters, warbirds, GA, classics from the days, I think darn I would like that.... But frankly most information for me on those aircraft I "would" like to make is beyond the reach, even more beyond reach then it is on the A350 already.

But if you ever decide to make an F-16 or a Super Constellation or something else I might like, and I like a lot of things, be sure to alert me ;)

Not so much a rebuttal, more a realisation of the sim's limits. I recently read a delightful book titled "Skyfaring" by Mark Vanhoenacker which describes, compellingly, the appeal of flying tubes across the globe. Part of the appeal is what is seen from the cockpit and to be blunt, FS doesn't render the world outside in enough fidelity to reproduce what Vanhoenacker describes. Flying these aircraft can also be a technically absorbing business what with navigational and fuel-consumption considerations which are all part of a proper commercial pilot's trade. The problem is, flights last hours; and hours; and yet more hours.

Like Paul, I find that paint is taking a long time to dry...

I fully understand what you mean, blieve me I do. Yet somehow the magic of flight can be captivated in commercial aviation aswell, for most people that is.
Like I said I would've been happy modelling another aircraft aswell.
Ofcourse the FS limits are fully noticable when flying commercial jets, look at the physical parts alone such as light and, like you said, the level of detail in the surrounding environment. But after all that is what I've thusfar most enjoyed in FS....

I understand your point, but I can't do anything about it... ;)

And surely time and time again have I wondered if I shouldn't try and model something completely different aswell. But I always have to face the fact that I don't have the knowledge to do a classic, or a jetfighter or GA aircraft for that matter, and other people do.... Atleast with this one most people know as little as I do.
