• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aerofly 2 Released; Beta; Steam Games

Barry, I took your concern to Ipacs and here is the reply.

Very nice, thanks Devon. I don't have the know-how in terms of helping develop a 3D exporter, but it's good to know they are willing to work on this.

I'll spend some more time checking out their sim and then see if I can help somehow. Blender is open source so maybe we can find a sample exporter for them to look at.

Sketchup is nice but mostly limited to scenery work. With Blender there's a lot more capabilities and you can make anything including aircraft.

I'm also taking a look at Fusion360. It's more CAD oriented but has a free hobbyist license.

They sound like eminently reasonable people!

Agreed! :)

I'm not concerned about professional payware devs, they can justify the cost of 3dsMax or Cinema4D. It would be nice if freeware/hobbyist folks can play too.
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure if it becomes popular enough the devs for Blender and such will come up with a game pack to accommodate people like you and me who are hobbyist.

We might consider Blender or Sketchup, but writing an exporter for those programs requires time.

If you do know some people that know how to write plugins for these 3D programs and are willing to share source code, we could speed up the whole process.

What we really need is a sample plugin in c++ source form, where we can see how to export vertex data, normal, texture coordinates and materials.

Arno would be the person for this. Also, at P3D, they hired a person to make their compiler software, and improve the ones they had. I cant remember his name right now. Great guy.

They now have Deer Valley airport and Scottsdale airport in Phoenix, which now covers North Phoenix fully.

This sim rocks!

Yep Lane,

First photo, taking off from Deer Valley. Behind the rudder is where the main terminal building is. Under the nose gear is where the PanAm school is, where they park their galactic fleet of Pipers.

Photo two is Scottsdale, doing a flyby. Squaw Peak mountain ahead, facing South Sou-Westy, the terminal is under the left engine.

The resolution looks lower then with Goodyear airport. Also, the update for the platform was 11 Gigs. I wonder if they lowered the highest resolution some. That would be sad if they did.

My graphics card this morning was slightly wavy when flying and looking around. It does this slightly, but today it seemed 'more so'. I hope its not starting to bog down.

I've never seen you so excited about something like you are with this. Are we sure your not a sales rep? ;)

Paul,

I remember invisioning the direction FS2004 should go. This was long before FSX came out. I wanted FS2004 to become photo scenery, the entire planet. I knew the planes could be better. This is like that. This is like a futuristic version of FS2004.

I find myself just flying in it. I get caught up with just flying and exploring. I am very impressed with it. With other sims, I am constantly grunting and exclaiming, like with XP. Some things in it really freak me out. Same for FSX. But with this, I just fly. I focus on the sky and ground, land marks, the instruments, improving my connection with controls and navigation, keeping it on ALT and HDG by hand instead of letting AP do everything. Its been good fun.

I hope I am able to start putting things in it. I would love to see more realistic buildings for Deer Valley. Glad we got that and Scottsdale.

Their planes have moved up the notch on quality. It will be difficult to beat them on their quality level.

Nope. The PRELIMINARY download was 11Gigs.

After that's done is a monster download of 54Gigs, taking your total for Aerofly FS2 up close to 90Gigs!

Yep... Last night, err, yesterday, it said 84.5 or 85.4 Gigs, which was two downloads combined. Started at 10:30AM and finished the next day at 6:40 AM. I left the computer running through the night.

Yes, Lane. However, the towers in California, like at Montgomery, were exactly like their real tower. Some buildings are right on. It looks like some of the Phoenix downtown buildings looked actual, or proper. But the buildings at Deer Valley werent exact.

All I wanted was the runway, lol.. This is huge for me. Now to get the SDK.

High Rez is pretty moderate. Really enjoying this. Much better then it was before. Flew from Deer Valley over to Scottsdale, over to Mesa, Falcon Field is now there, T&G there, over to Williams for a T&G, then down to Tucson. Found some midway airports on the way there such as Maranna. Goodness.... Found the bone yards in Tucson, said a prayer for them. Poor birds... Finally put down and called it a night.

I got an email from my request for the SDK. They will have accommodations for Max 2014 in about a week. I look forward to making some scenery.

They will also have aircraft exporters soon. That is in the works. He said it is pretty easy to export the planes, but setting up the airfiles is difficult, but then he said 'its much easier then making them for FSX' which I was grateful to hear. Making a plane handle right in FSX is an event that makes gray eyebrows HUGE on a 16 year old kid, not to mention what it can do to us older fellows. :S

My jaunt last night. I was just going to enjoy the area around Deer Valley. Couldnt contain myself and went to Scottsdale, and noticed Falcon Field. Went there, then Gateway... It just got more tempting... Next thing I know, I am on my way to Tucson. Found so many aiports. I also like looking at the terrain and was really perplexed at some of them.

This batch of mountains above stood out from all the terrain and appears like it was created. Check the way there are wavy ridges. This looks like it was made somehow...

I wonder what this is??? Looks fenced off. Very strange.

Above, City of Tucson, some 3D buildings and a stadium. Setup for approach to International.

Check the belly of the plane. This isnt a great shot, but usually its reflecting, you can tell the shine of the paint like its real. This is PBR texture technology. This is the next step in FS and the gaming world has had it for a while now. Also note the details and roundness of the planes parts. The flaps have big fins on the surfaces, top and bottom. For some reason they arent showing in this screenshot. I think they are 3D modelled as I cant see how a bump map can make them this tall.

International...

Saying a prayer for all the birds down there in Plane Cemetary... :(

The majestic mountain ranges just East of Tucson. They are massive. I would say the terrain really makes this sim great. And the planes... and the sky... (the sky is so realistic, the right brightness and color).

I've been flying around...... and wondering why I have such a visceral gut reaction to this program, when photoscenery is hardly a new phenomena, and other sims also have better systems implementation. Part of it is that this sim is made from the ground up for photoscenery, and at times its so razor-sharp I almost feel like my eyeballs might be cut by looking at it. The second, more subtle thing is just what you mentioned: the lighting that just FEELS right, and satisfies some subtle mental cues that you're hardly aware of until you see it finally done to modern standards. (Finally!)

Third is a sense of buy-in that the whole thing is photoscenery. Other sims have it, but its only a visitor in those: a novelty: but here that's all there is, and the reality of it makes you do something that's gotten harder and harder for some of us to do in our current sims, and that's to just sigh and sit back and totally accept the reality of your surroundings.

No roads across stadiums and jigsaw-puzzle collages of repeating patterns. You're there, and its real.

And because of that, you can do exactly what I see you doing. Explore! Mountains, rivers, dams, interesting rock formations, strange apartment complexes.......

The little kid is restored again, and flying is an adventure.

Rather than responding to the systems (which honestly are very basic) I think people are just soaring: no stuttering, no breaks in the suspension of disbelief (or at least smaller ones)

Its what people want to see and feel like when they imagine flying.

Ipacs has the ball in their court. They could easily have a home run, as long as they don't somehow massively screw up.

Its their game to lose.

In the past, i found AC3D to be a fine alternative to StudioMax.
It reads and writes StudioMax files, it costs a fraction.

The company that distributes AC3D actually advertises IPACS flightsim to be among their a main customers.
