• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New Freeware Pilot Design Program

Hey guys,

Just found this at the X-Plane website.

Its a new freeware, open program for creating people. It comes with a base male and I believe a female as well. Its an alternative over Poser, which can get a bit pricey for those that cannot afford $100.00 or $200.00.

I do not know if this also includes a clothes generating system like Poser has. If it doesnt, basically you would just create clothes over yours, roughen them up a bit, then delete the unseen flesh under the clothes. You usually only need the head, hands, and arms if they are short sleeved shirts. The rest is hidden under clothes.

But... Having the correct proportions is extremely important. Being able to sit your pilot into a proper position, right length of arms, legs, size of feet, hands, etc, is extremely important. The Human eye always catches things that are out of proportion.

The problem with a Poser generated figure is that even the old Poser 4/5 (Current version is Poser 7) low-poly figures can still choke gmax/FS.

Each finger is modelled and jointed, etc, so even though the animations do not come across when the figure is exported and brought into max/gmax, all those polygons do.

As a Poser alternative, though, DAZ Studio is a lot cheaper (like free).

However, thanks for the information. I'll definitely look that program up!

Hey Bill,

hmm.... They must be temporarily off line. Give them a short while and see if it works later. It was working this morning when I downloaded the package from them.

Felix,

Yes, the later Poser models can be massively overkill on poly structures. You have to know how to go in and really bring them down to a useable mesh.

* Export as a non-animated 'part' without links. This way you have a shirt, pants, body, shoes.
* Export as 3DS
* Import into a scene in Gmax
* Go to Element mode, and start selecting teeth, tongue, etc, and delete out of the body mesh. Eyelids or eyelash platforms are another to get rid of. Detach the hair. Then go through each and start bringing down their poly counts with Optomize. You can sometimes crank up Optomise to 9X on things like hair. Remember, just the face and hands need to be 'nice' but not super nice.
* With the eyes, create a Sphere, same size as an eye, move to that location, clone for the other eye to mark its location. Then delete the eye parts for the original, then delete the back parts of the eyeballs and map them. (They fit in eye sockets).

Earlier Poser models do not have sophisticated builds and are more easily adapted. They will not have eyeballs, etc. Some are not even worth editing with Optomizer. If you can spare the extra vertices, just drop one in. But I am talking a Poser 1 or 2 model. Very basic. (I have Poser 5, which had the older ones in it also. I am not sure the new Poser has the early models in it).

Face and hands... Thats the important part. You can delete the rest of the body that cannot be seen. (Assuming you have clothes on it.. eeeks!)

THanks for the tips!

I have Poser 4 and 6, and you CAN download legacy (Poser 1-4 content for 5 from contentparadise.com ..
