• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Hello all,

I'm new with the scenery design, can anyone help me on how to save a polygon like in google earth and save it as kml in Virtual Earth? I can't find how to do it in virtual earth.

Regards,
Nick

You mean an image layer in the browser? I don't think that's possible. But you can use VE images in SBuilder and create image layers there. ;)

Hi Nick,

You use GE to create the .kml file even if you are using VE to download tiles.

Thanks for the reply, the only problem i have is that GE doesn't have very good images for Mauritius.... whereas VE has some very nice satellite photos....that's why.. i guess i won't use Maps2bgl then, i'll go with photoscenery maker.

Surely they are good enough to create the polygon  All this does is to define the area to download.

Having saved the .kml, change maps.ini to use VE before starting Maps2Bgl and it will download VE images. In fact, I have downloaded most of my images using VE.

We think you'Re confusing some things there. IF all you want to do is specify an area (with a kml file) and then download the tiles from this area using VE, then you can indeed create the kml using GE and tell maps2bgl to download this area from VE.

Hi, NixPilot

I think that your goal is... create a polygon in Virtual Eart like you do in Google Earth... and save it in KML format?
ok, here we go...

1-Go to Mauritius Island (your map), zoom it to the max that VE get.

2-Go to pulldown menu and click on "Collectins", and choose "Open your collections".

3-Now, you have a "popup board- Collections Editor" whith draw icon tools on the bothom!

4- Chose the polygon icon and start make the contours of the island. ( warning: i think this tool is no so perfect like in GE, but... you can edit the nodes to adjust/smooth the final shape).

5-Now, close the polygon whith dobble click on the "end/beguining" and save it! a RED square icon apear.

6- Back to the "Collections Editor" tab, and at the pulldown menu, chose "Actions". Click on "Export" and chose .KML file! Save it in your costume folder.

... and that's that! :D

I hope this can help?

Tunga
