• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Kennedy Space Center Scenery for MSFS2020

I am trying to be humble, but I do think I know what I am talking about ;) I implemented the SimConnect module for P3D which utilizes a physics engine that models spaceflight to a very accurate degree. I am trying to work (among my other projects and contract work) on porting it to MSFS202x, and when (or if) I am eventually successful, we will have a truly unique MSFS202x experience of real, high fidelity space flight for MSFS202x. To that end, I would like to enable 3rd party developers (such as Captain Sim and some other ones trying to create some wonderful, albeit unorthodox add-ons) to create the spacecraft, with all their cockpit detail and functionality, and "hook in" to my physics module (called SpacePort) to be able to get into space. I've posted it before, but here it is again - I managed to get Capt. Sim's Orbiter into SpacePort, where it is under the control of real physics, orbiting Earth, and responding to RCS thrusters in Roll, Pitch And Yaw. Doesn't look like much, but trust me, it is a big deal ;)

Experimenting with a new cloud sprite texture, and getting a bit of a progress for the night launches!

hehe, you remember I made some rockets for that :D just waiting for Spaceport to try to attach your Physics ;)

We are prepping V2 marketplace assets for the release, which include a few 4K screenshots for the main page background. Things look even more defined in 4K. The smoke sprites get a whole new level of definition when in 4K resolution. Check it out:

Sharing here a quick WIP of the VERY TRICKY plume exhaust VFX, that we think is finally starting to look decent. We managed to create a bright VFX for the immediate white-hot engine exhaust that blends the 3D bright flames, and is then combined with a long-lasting darker plume trail. Here are 4 videos, for different times of day:

Man, this is looking absolutely amazing! I love how you managed to get the white exhaust heat blended in to the darker smoke trail... AND hide the 3D flame cones... Why are those needed, anyway? Also, any update on the release? How is that coming along?

Hey thanks... Yeah the 3D plume "cones" are needed because their material gives off a nice glow effect, especially at night. We tried using a material/texture that fades into transparent for better blending, but fading for a bright material simply did not work.

We have submitted the V2 for 2020 and 2024 on Wednesday, and we can see that they are in the process of being "ingested"... so with a bit of luck, hopefully, release is on Thursday, 6 days from now.

Hi everyone! Kennedy Space Center Scenery V2 is now out and available on MSFS Marketplace!! (Of course, totally free for current users, and always will be!)

We managed to capture this one, in 4K (which gives such crisp resolution to smoke sprites)... So far, our favorite ;) Something to do with overcast cloud cover and lighting conditions it produces.

The comedy of huge "NO SMOKING" label and casually interacting personnel during launch is not lost on us :D

I just downloaded an update. STUNNING piece of work. The launches look even better than in your videos and screenshots. So... what's next? ;)

I'm eagerly awaiting the MSFS24 version; currently, only the MSFS version is available in the marketplace :)
Is the scenery available for purchase elsewhere outside of the MSFS marketplace (Aerosoft, ORBX, Contrail, etc.)?

Hi Christian!

Yes - MS is in charge of "porting" MSFS2024 version, I have no control over it. A few weeks back, V1 porting got bogged down in the process somewhere down the line, and I asked them to cancel it and just wait for V2. Hopefully, everything goes smoothly this time.

As for other places to sell, I decided against it, mainly because non-MP packs are installed into "Community" folder, and thus prone to piracy.

[CORRECTION] V2 is now available on 2024 Marketplace. However, MS didn't update marketplace data, which still shows V1 content.

V1 is now available on MSFS2024 MP... I thought MS said they will stop the release and go straight to V2, but I guess it finally made it out... It's been 5 weeks since I tested it and gave it a go ahead.

Misho: have you tried adding a medium speed rotation to the smoke sprites? (Of course you have! 😄 ). I had to create some radial engine fires and I found that adding rotation helped cover the more obvious repetition of the flame sprites.

That's a good suggestion, and I did consider it. The sprites are given a random static angle on creation (spawn) which takes care of the repetition pattern, but they are not given a spin during their lifetime. I watched enough launch videos to conclude that the smoke particles do not spin/rotate, they just kind of expand. What I AM looking into is, moving to animated sprite (atlas bitmap) that depicts a ball of smoke that appears to be "boiling" (more smoke being pushed from inside to the surface of the sphere. So far, I have been unable to locate an animated sprite (payware or public domain) that would suit my needs. I may have to learn Adobe Aftereffects... On YouTube, there is a tutorial on what I need, more or less, so, we'll see.

Congrats @Misho It looks awesome. I personally own annual passes to the KSC and It looks great. If you need pictures or info let me know.
