• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I develop for both, FS9 and FSX.

I still have a strong following of FS9 customers.

Bill Leaming (N4GIX) has a good point on numbers of available downloads for FSX compared with FS9 at AVSIM. Addon sohpistication I think is the main fallback.

I don't expect developers to continue with FS9, why should they waste their time.

I will still be developing FS9 planes for a long time. :D If the people wish to buy FS9 products, I am willing to sell them. They are dreadfully easy to make. Making a plane to run in FSX is difficult in the conversion mainly at the assignments of animations and effects, (creation of custom animations, effects, etc, with the new code and with the new dual and tripple processes in the parts lists seem to me to be the real time killer).

By the way, this is why I am pushing to get a compiler to make a model above 64,000 polygons. We can now compress the Vertices down to close proximity as like FSX, but we cant do high polygon counts yet. Then we could take an FSX mesh and compile it to FS9, thus opening payware possibilities of market backup perhaps 50% to 100% and models wouldnt have to suffer drop downs in mesh quality in FS9. They would be 'improved'.

Concerning who governs what is in the market, I think its the 'market' themselves. Mind you, the freeware people will make what they want, while payware people will make what the people want.

On a personal level, I fly FS9 for fun. I cannot stand to run a simulator at low to zero effects settings, and even with FS9 cranked up to about 100%, its still at perhaps 24 FPS, which is not high. FSX will jump down to 5-7 FPS and thats with nearly no traffic (ground traffic off, GA traffic about 5%). With clear weather though, and away from cities, its at perhaps 25FPS, which then it is good, but I dont like to have all this 'sim' and not be able to fly it.

I have a new quad core, 8500GT nVidia, 3 gigs of DDR Ram. You would think I could run it pretty dang fast.. arrgh... (Yes, I have all the adjustments and tweaks done to FSX and my system). What could pose a bad position for me is if I 'did' have a super computer that could run FSX, and I could afford all the scenery that would make it look realistic, (at $40.00 to $45.00 dollars each, perhaps 20 or 40 of such said packages), then I would have a sim platform that would be fun to fly, but I couldnt use it as a test platform, so I would have to have 2 computers, one for fun, and one for testing. By testing, it has to be a 'normal' computer that everyone else has, sort of a 'run of the mill' average. This way, I am able to know what most others are seeing...

I am totally commited to FSX and learning its tricks day by day. Don´t take the following on the wrong side. I read that the leader of the Aces is leaving, I particularly think it is healthy for FS and as he said it will be very worthy to him. Why?....As a system engineer for 37 years I have realized that it is very "healthy" when programming a very long project it is usually very good to incorporate new people into it from time to time, specially in leading positions. New ideas are brought forward, old problems are looked with different eyes and solutions are found --usually the overall project benefits...So I expect very good things in FS11 when it arrives. I would like to congratulate this site once again for all the talent that it has brought together...I learn something here every time I come in....fabulous...

Why does this > one year old thread keep showing up on the "New Posts" list??? :yikes:

I still find it an interesting subject and never bore of it and peoples comments.

Personally, I prefer building planes for FS9. Anyone else? I get more customers having issues that end up being based on their installation of FSX then any with FS9.

Currently showing 46% FSX Only - so where are these 46% of FSX only addons?

It would be interesting to see the result of a poll started today.

Initially I said FSX only (as that was all I had and where I started from) but too many are asking for FS9 versions so I have bowed to the pressure.

Thats a good question.

Perhaps a new Poll is in order.

I am principally FS9 mainly and do create full FSX models.

I, too, would like to see a new poll on this question.

ps..not sure why I don't start it...but feeling lazy right now.. LOL

.......errrrr...... Greg? Are you alright? :D

You know that I already started a new poll in june and you commented it! See the link above.

Maybe one of the moderates should lock this one here...

haha... I'd vote in that one!!!! :)

Ok...how many people have been sooooo tired...that they are sleeping at home, and the phone rings, and they answer it with their work greeting????

I have NOT done this in many many years...but when I was in the Coast Guard, I would do it occasionally when I would be off duty.

And, many years ago, I would leave one Pizza place for another for better pay, etc... More than once, would answer the phone at one place with the name of the last place...hehe I have heard others do this as well. Funny to hear the customers say: Umm....where am I calling?

ps. BTW: Pan is the best. :)

Greg

No wonder I can't understand half of what you say. I thought it was because you were so much smarter than me:).

I work three days a week doing building maintaince for a three campus school district. Another three days a week at a violin repair shop. Plus giving guitar lessons at night. On my day off I play in the church band. I know where you are coming from.

Bob

pan...

heh, Hey Bob, if I were smarter than you, I wouldn't be working this hard!!!! LOL

My typical week: My own company (janitorial...residential and commercial) during the day. Now I also work nights as manager of a pizza restaurant. Get off from there about 2am on weednights (3-3:30 on weekends). On Wednesday nights I have band practice, and Sundays I have to be at church by 7am for band practice, after getting home from restaurant about 3-3:30am.

I almost liked it better when I only had my business...and it was slow. LOL Stupid need to pay bills and eat!!!!!!!

i think hes a drummer :) i play guitar a little bit. I used to play it at church some to:D

PS. I agree with Greg. Pan all the way. Anything but thin crust.
