• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Contrast and colour are not thine enemies

As I've spent more time with FS2020 & 2024, I've come to discover that most of us developers seem to be getting inspiration less from real life and more from Assassin's Creed with low-contrast, desaturated textures and heavy, excessively opaque AO layers. I kinda just wanted to remind everyone...

FS2004 XML flap handle sound gauge issues

Okiedoke, I am going to preface this by saying that I am a total novice outside of programming some basic XML animations for models in the past, but I will note that I have read the Panels SDK, Doug's documentation for dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau, and have studied several similar gauges, along with...

North American V-Scale: PW Turbo Wasp JT8D Phase I

Short, bullet points for now because typing sucks: This is largely an academic exercise I am working on between my main projects for Open Rails. This is probably the third or or fourth iteration of this project to use some recordings I made of a PW JT8D-17A on a Delta (ex-NCA) DC-9-51 in 2013...

FFG import issue in 3DS 2022 and 2024

Howdy, I've been using the FFG tool to move models between 3DS 2022 and GMax for a few years now. I just upgraded to a new computer, and for the life of me I can't import anything but basic primitives into 3DS 2022 now. I run the script, the script runs, the list of objects is generated, it...

    Sssshhh... it's a secret!

Hey kids! Did you ever get frustrated when making frequency curves for your sounds? Well, good news, I've got a way of doing it that requires no real effort, and I was even nice enough to make a comment about it on the YouTubes. Here's what I posted: Super secret #2: a big part of figuring out...

    It's one of those days!

50 years ago today, a little yellow airplane with a two-tone gold-pinstriped slate blue/navy blue stripe down the side of the fuselage took to the air for the first time. Since then, the 737 has broken every sales record in the book for a commercial airplane (the lion's share of DC-3 orders were...

    Does MSFS dislike long clips?

I had the fortune of being on a DC-9 that went through almost the entire engine speed range on taxi-out on a single engine. Well, me being me, I decided that the recordings I took ought to translate to something sim pilots can use. Well, after a whole lot of work separating engine sounds by...

"I flew on a 737 last week and it had double slotted flaps. Your model is wrong."

"Also, your engines are too small and are under the wing. They should be big and in front of it. The thrust reversers are wrong. They look like an MD80s. They should just slide back." I never actually got those (that I can remember), but I bet at least a few people have. What's the dumbest...

Snark: What's Boeing's marketing staff going to do about the older 737s?

Now that the Max is in production, it'll only be a matter of time before it supersedes the NG entirely. So: When Boeing came out with the 737 in 1967, it was just the 737. They didn't even bother putting a little dash with the series on the painted-on logos (possibly because nobody wanted the...

Tips and tricks from an idiot savant

Every once in a while, I come across a piece of information that model builders might find useful. This does me absolutely no good, because I really don't spend much time building 3D models these days, so I thought it might be a good idea to share what little wisdom I might impart somewhere. I...
