• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    FSEarthTiles skipping tiles

I've never run into problems before but suddenly FSET is skipping eight out of nine tiles in southern Nevada, saying it's entirely water. If anyone has ever been north of Las Vegas this is not the case. Groom Lake/Area 51 is northwest of where I'm working and FSET created scenery for that...

    Are USGS elevation maps stretched?

I remember the process for making flight simulator terrain mesh from USGS DEMs, having to reproject them to WGS84. But I noticed when working with the geotiff in QGIS that a 38-degree north map was a perfect square (10,812x10,812). On the National Map viewer download page the tile I am working...

P3D v5 Power lines close to airport

I would like to put in telephone poles along power lines that are within a mile of airports. This seems like it would be easy: tell ScenProc to look for "aeroway=aerodrome" polygons and do a LineToPoint for "power=line," but filtering through the osm.pbf file's power line tags is not something I...

    P3D v5 Shp2Vec no longer working? [SOLVED]

A couple years ago I had to stop creating custom water polygons because I couldn't get Shp2Vec to work any more with ScenProc. Tried v4, v5, and v6's tools and none would work. Now I am working with power lines and ran into the same problem. Does anyone know of a good way to get Shp2Vec to work...

    P3D v5 Eliminate giant buildings?

Once autogen buildings reach a certain size for me they become problematic, like stadiums, racetracks, etc. Is there a good way to eliminate these buildings? Since the way I have autogen detection programmed covers up things it shouldn't, I think I'd rather just not see them. Unless someone...

P3D v5 Possible to detect size of water tank via texture filter?

Is it possible to use points from OpenStreetMap data and use ScenProc's texture filter to determine area, and assign a different library object based on the area? Seems like a long-shot but I figured it's worth asking.

P3D v5 Importing OpenStreetMap taxiways into ADE?

While considering how hard it would be to update P3D's Mirimar MCAS (formerly Fightertown, USA, home of TOPGUN) I noticed that OpenStreetMap has an extremely detailed taxi and apron vectors. Would it be possible to import this data into Airport Design Editor, or perhaps another program? I import...

Best way to paint runways for P3D in 2024?

I was tinkering around with NAS Patuxent River and saw all the ship LZ markings and neat stripes all over the runways and wondered if there are any fancy new ways to paint polygons and textures on airports. Blender maybe? I can load a georeferenced image into Airport Design Editor then drag the...

    Upscaling FSX object textures

I apologize if this has been answered many times and my search skills aren't good enough for me to have found the threads, but is there a good way to take old FS9/FSX-era library objects and upscale the texture size, edit them in higher resolution, then put them back on the same objects? I love...

P3D v5 Adding aircraft as static models

I can import an aircraft's .mdl file into MCX, but to get it to display properly I have to do a lot of moving and rotating. I export the BGL and it displays in the sim, but the animations are a challenge. Is there a way to have the aircraft without pilots and gear extended, and without having to...

P3D v5 Can I remove a static airplane from stock P3D scenery and move it

"Balls 8," the famous B-52B that was NASA's mother ship for everything you can imagine is sitting on the apron at Edwards AFB North Field. I'm sure it looked good in the FS9 days but it's not holding up well and I'd like to move it to where it sits at the North Gate as a static display. Since...

P3D v5 Brighten or Lighten imagery on FSEarthTiles

FSET does a good job making photoreal scenery for P3D, but the output texture is darker than I'd like. There are two .INI files for lightness and brightness: one for EarthMasks and one for EartTiles. Plus, FEST has a recommended setting that is dependent on contrast. Does anyone know a good way...

P3D v5 Filtering out intermittent water polygons

Using QGIS, I would like to filter out washes, intermittent ponds, inundation areas from either OSM or USGS data. Both present a unique challenge: I can't find how to eliminate the FCODES I don't want from the USGS data. I think I used to use something along the lines of "FCODE" != 'a' AND...

P3D v5 Converting lots of JP2 files into photoreal scenery

I have a system to convert USGS imagery into photoreal scenery one 15-minute grid at a time. The process is pretty tedious and time consuming though, and it looks like Scenproc has come a long way on photoreal since I last did scenery. I read the manual and watched Arno's tutorial, which was...

P3D v5 Possible to copy and paste from one airport to another?

I am wanting to update the excellent MAIW Pensacola NAS and would like to use the stock P3D KNPA as a base, but I would like to use the MAIW aprons which have all the taxiways and parking spots. Is there a way to run the stock KNPA in one window of ADE and copy and paste it from another window...

P3D v5 Disappearing autogen, could the ortho LOD be too high?

I've been tinkering with FS Earth Tiles and did a 15-minute grid at level 1, which is 1 meter per pixel. It looked ok (and didn't strip my autogen), so I tried compiling an adjacent section at level 0, which is .5 meter per pixel. Looked better, but the trees and buildings disappeared. Got me to...

Checking back in, anything new in P3D?

Took a long time off from tinkering with scenery design and wondered if there was anything new in P3D scenery design. A year or so ago I had hit a wall on P3D as my water polygons weren't working after Lockheed changed their SDK, stock night textures and lights were bleeding through my ortho...

MSFS20 Adding arrestor gear and carrier markings

I used to be able to add these via library objects in P3D using Airport Design Editor. I've been watching videos on scenery design in MSFS but haven't found one that discusses this line of work. Is there a way to add these runway markings to MSFS, like Blender?

MSFS20 Placing oil rigs in MSFS

I got pretty good at putting library objects into P3D and since I've mostly transitioned to MSFS I really miss seeing oil rigs where they are supposed to be. Would have thought that the Puffin We Love VFR mod I downloaded would have them but apparently not. A) Is there an oil rig library object...

MSFS20 Possible to import existing steam gauges into cockpit?

I can't really stand computer monitors in the cockpit. Is it hard to remove the glass panels and replace them with old-fashioned gauges?
