• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3D Text

Do you know a way to create 3D text with FSDS?

I know it can be done (and maybe fairly easily) with other programs like Gmax, but I am designing with FSDS and I want to integrate 3D text on an airport terminal building that I am designing.

Any ideas?

Hi Corsair

If you only wanted a sign with letters on it a transparent texture would do the trick.

But to make it 3D…hummm the only way I can think of is to make each letter one at a time out of the primitive shapes, mostly cubes.

Letters like “T” would be simple but letters like ”S” would be a bit more work.

I have never tried to make letters this way.
Perhaps one of the other guys here might have a better idea.

Two kludges... (alternates to Farfy's suggestion)

Use a program that does 3d text (I want to say Blender, or another freeware modeller) to create the text. Export as dxf. Use the CVA converter to import the dxf into fsds.

Sketchup to collada/dae, modelconvertX to fsc ....oops, not yet! (shameless begging here!).

Thank you Farfy and Felix,

I was hoping to avoid switching to another program just for the 3d text part. Well, always something new to learn..

..ModelconvertX to fsc would be really great though :)
